I broke down and bought a new laptop to replace my aging gateway.

as much as I love new computers, man it's a pain in the butt to get all setup again.

And what's with technology...3 years ago I paid $1500 for a damn good machine.

My new laptop was $1000 and it absolutely puts my old one to shame.

Here's what I ended up going with.

Except for the ****ty OnBoard graphics, ****ty L2 cache (I know 1mb is doing big things for a turion but still) and the ****ty SATA 5400 rpm drive....

J/K It's cool :) I need a new one, but I wouldn't go any other way but a dell with Core 2 Duo 1.8ghz, 2mb L2 cache, 2gb ram, 15.4" screen, 8600 256mb graphics, at least a 7200 rpm drive, if not a SATA II setup.

I just keep dreaming though, since I never play games anymore I can't justify the cost lol! My work computer owns my home pc as it is, except the gfx card. This week we are upgrading to a XPS base system for the workstation, it's really going to own my old PC.... Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E6850 (4MB L2 Cache,3.0GHz,1333 FSB), 2gb DDR2 800mhz, 320gb 7200rpm SATA II, 8600 GTS, twin 17" flat panels.

Even then it's like I could build a much better system for 2/3 the cost. I haven't spoken geek in along time.... BTW I transferred all my guts into the tower I got from you Nick, works great and I can finally upclock my CPU to normal without it overheating (I stole the old heatsink that was in it and used it on mine) and OC the gfx card without worrying about the old powersupply blowing up in my face.

Actually without trying to sound like a total nerd Moore's law is "a prediction that transistor densities in new silicon-based chips will double every 18 months". Gordon Moore is the cofounder of intel. He made this prediction in 1965 and it has mostly held true ever since.

= faster cheaper processors every 18 months. roughly the time it takes for your computer to be totally out of date and worth 10% of what you paid.:censor:

I just got my new Mac Book Pro on Friday. This thing is a beast. 17" high res screen, dual 2.4GHz, 150GB drive, 2GB ram, and OS X 1.5 Leopard!

So far I like it.

How's Leopard? Apple store in town is temporary closed, so I couldn't play with it yet, but my copy is on the way from MacCoonection. :D
