Here is another thing that sounded good on the drawing board but I could have done without.
My mom got stranded in her new JK in Fernly at twelve O clock last night. She turned the jeep off to fill up with gas and left the key in the ignition when she got back in to start the car the car wouldn't start the microchip in the key glitched and locked the ignition system so you cant start the car :maddance:. The factory road-side service couldn't find anyone closer than Carson city under there plan to tow it back to a dealer. Thank god I got the bright idea to have her disconnect the battery to reset the error code. I wasn't sure if it would work I know it does for check engine lights on some cars sure enough it did.

One up on the rep for the good information. That may come in handy.

That's what I usually tell people in that situation. Most of the time I get "How do I get the cable off?"

Those transponder keys are suppose to be a theft deterrent but end up being a pain in the @$$ more than anything. :maddance:

Be happy it worked. A couple weeks ago a friend of mine had the receiver go out and his truck was dead for 2 weeks while the part was on backorder....

And it cost about $40 for a new key and $60 for them to program it.

Boy I feel stupid I just realized I did a typo on the title of this thread and I usually spell check stuff before I post.

Who is selling these cheap keys? We have the ones with the transponders (fancy buttons) for about $157 retail. The grey ones with chip only run about $60.

Hey 72V.

Can one buy a JK WITHOUT all the fancy key stuff? Hope so or a new JK is off my list....

Cool, I'll send you a PM Monday on price. Does she already have 2 keys? If so, you can program it yourself.

If you dont mind not having the transponder system you can have a bunch of copys made of your key at your local hardware store and then tape your OE key inside the column and you should be good to go. you can have as many cheap keys as you want

How close does the chip have to be?
