Running Vista and the ultra-PIMPIN' Webroot SpySweeper, which BTW - BestBuy pushes this like it is PURE GOLD.

Here are some screen caps, can you say...HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEM!!!

It takes a village....no single program finds everthing, so you must tag team it with multiple programs.

But the lack of anything found with a PAID RETAIL product chaps my hide. :maddance:

formatting the hd and installing a different os

1. Take a silkwood shower.

2. Using DBAN on the drive, then a format, then a fresh install.

This one was past trying to fix, just ran the scans over the weekend to see what caused the trainwreck.

EVERYONE SHOULD know that the majority of the infections on this PC came as a direct result of using LIMEWIRE. Many of the downloaded songs were infected with Trojans.

Buying the music from trusted vendors - Itunes, Napster, Rhapsody is the way to go. Because now they just paid enough in repairs to buy 20 CDs.

x1000000000000 when I use to work at a computer repair shop customers always ask "why do I get viruses " I sometimes wish I can yell at them "Quit looking at PORN and Quit downloading illegal music !!!"

So how do you run more than one of those programs together? My wife put the spysweeper on our system. Which are the ones to use? Any advice?

Go here: www.download.com

Get:

1. Adaware
2. Spybot 1.6.2
3. A-Squared Free
4. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Install, UPDATE, run FULL/deep scans.

Turn OFF System Restore, peform disk cleanup.

Then to www.Microsoft.com, search for & download Windows Defender, update, change scan options from quick to full, change scan time to when PC is on, and change all the defaults to automatic REMOVE all High/Med/Low threats.

Free porn is ok, as long as you have all the above programs, full version of AVG, and are behind a SonicWALL security device. :nervous:

Avast, AVG, Kapersky, NOD32, and CA are the only products I can trust, the others I have not tried...yet.

Mcafee and Norton take too much resources.

Trend Micro has been nothing but a PITA with low detection rates. Plus half the time it does not uninstall completely, so I have to registry drive to get the PITA out. Ditto for the Trend Micro uninstall tool - worthless.

Trend Micro used to be really good, and now it's a complete resource hog and is basically a bloated version of it's former self ... much like norton and macafee.

I use Eset.
