The blockage of Gray Creek at Ice Land (the log home) requires contact with the Calif Dept of Fish & Game. Any disturbance of the creekbed, such as refilling it with rocks from the creek sides, requires permission before proceeding. The fact that Nature does not apply for permission to alter the creek's course does not enter into the situation. There is some question regarding where the property owner's bridge is located on the survey map. The bridge may be on Calif state property, in which case the log house homeowner has a problem in that his survey for his property may be wrong. This will take some time to resolve (months). In the meantime, until the ford across Gray Creek is passable, that ford is closed for the foreseeable future. The log house owner's property rights must be respected. For anyone traveling east on Hirschdale Road toward the log house, PLEASE do not raise any dust on the short section of dirt road in front of the residences at Hirschdale by the gate. Go very slowly. If/when you get to the log house, you will find the gate to the bridge is locked. DO NOT attempt to break the lock or the gate. DO NOT attempt to cross Gray Creek to access the Bronco Canyon route. If you are coming down Bronco Canyon you must turn around and go back the same way you came in. DO NOT cross the railroad tracks in an attempt to get to Truckee, or use the railroad's maintenance road parallel to the tracks. It's illegal, and the Union Pacific Railroad Police are on the lookout for people doing this.
