in case you're confused. 9mm luger is the common 9mm cartridge. when some says "glock 9mm" the 9mm it shoots is the 9mm luger. :nervous:

At any rate, it's a decent caliber. Many consider it to be the first of the self defense calibers. Others say .380. It's main benefit is that it's fast, and you can usually fit a whole bunch of them into a mag. It lacks the stopping power of the .40 and .45 though.

on the other hand the Luger pistol was produced from 1900-42,Its has good collectors value because of its ties to the Nazi era

Yeah I am talking about the pistol. Sorry for not responding sooner. Also so you are telling me you can go to the store and buy ammunition labeled 9mm luger? Anyways I have a luger and I know they are worth good money. I was wondering if anybody can tell me about my luger

post a pic-- many supposed WWII pistols called that were not military issue, but were police issue pistols and never saw hostilities--think traffic cops, etc. post a pic, partial #s and ID all stamps, markings and other indications of its origin. i have a decent library and may be of some help...

i had one that was certified 1944 but was police issue and even w/ original holster and spare mag, was worth about $300.

collectors want the waffenstamp = $

Best place top go for info is the gun at the convention center coming up in a couple of weeks. There's a few Luger collectors there. Bring your gun and let them look at it. It Will be worth substantially more than they will offer you for it.

The Luger was an awesome design... as most German gun designs were... but it was a failure as a military design because it was too complicated and the tolerances were too close. Little bit of mud or dirt and you got a hammer. WWII German standard pistol was the Walther P-38. Limp wristed German generals and other upper echelon officers carried the Luger because of its reputation.

Now if you had one in 45acp and marked US you'd have a REAL prize. The American military rejected the Luger after field trials because it was too complicated, too precise....pretty gun though. Old John Browning won out with that ridiculous long lasting 1911.:P

a pre-64 gun w/out a SN is not uncommon. my favorite remington .22 has no #s at all. thanks to lee harvy oswald for the SN req's we see today.

Where and what is this convention? Thanks for the info.

The gun show at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center near the Atlantis.

Sorry I guess I wasn't clear that this was the gun show and not a convention.
