wouldn't this be like giving up your favorite trails, but only fishing spots, pretty soon when all the people on the internet read about it over and over and over and over and over and over again? Pretty soon those nice quite spots would be over crowded and the agencies could change the regs/restrictions. Sorry werty, but I am afraid to lose any more of the seldom places I can fish/hunt and always find a spot...

good luck and catch lots of fish. Please don't share the good ol' Nevada hot spots on the internet. Please

Never mind, can't wait for the pyramid opener!!!!!

Pics would be cool!

Not a bad idea, but can be a pain to up-keep. Like for example, this weekend I will be fishing Crowley Lake and surrounding areas. I can tie up to 25 different flies and catch up to 30 fish.

Ever fish the eastside sierra?

I've not fished the eastern sierras yet. To be honest, I just got back into fly fishing a few months ago after a couple year lapse. If I was fly fishing, I was doing it salt water. I've only fished the Truckee and Carson rivers and a few small lakes around Tahoe.

As for the fishing log, you're right, it'll probably get tedious very quick. I'll try and keep it relatively updated though. Maybe after a while I'll be able to pick out some trends and catch more fish :D

I was killin' em last night on the truckee. The caddis hatch was THICK around 6:30. I got on the river about 5:45, fished until dusk, and caught at least 15 trout. Several were over 15" long. Probably had at least that many hits that didn't hook up too. Best night of fishing on the river for me so far.

Save your nickels and dimes starting right now. It took me way way way too long to make my first trip but it was the fishing experience of a life time. Like your dad, I try to make it up there every couple of years. The trout and salmon fishing around Lake Iliamna is the best in the world. I can highly recommend (google) Rainbow Point Lodge when the time comes for your first trip!

alright dude ur takin me to the truckee to fish sometime, i'll buy the bait and brew. oh ya were you fly fishin or casting?

The area I typically go to is a special management area--"Trophy" section. Single barbless hook, artificial lure only (fly fishing basically). In this area you can keep 2 fish, 14" or larger per day. I typically fish catch and release unless I accidentally kill one, or happen to be hungry that evening :D:D on week nights, I'm typically the only person on the river. Last night there was one other guy, and I think I was in his spot because he kept eying me funny. Or maybe it was the 9mm strapped to my back lol

If you want to spin/cast or fish with bait, I may know of a couple spots we could try that out. I'll have to wipe the dust off my spinning rod

I love it very much and yes very light. Looking at another rod pretty soon. Looking at 1 and 3wt rod for little creek fishing. I have been eyeing Scott for some time now (for all you that don't know, that's a brand).

1 wts are a blast, just watch out if you catch a decent sized fish. I had an opportunity to fish with a 0wt orvis rod in pennsylvania last year, and it felt like a toothpick in my hands.
I've found that 3 or 4 is as small as I want to go. I wouldn't mind picking up a 2wt though for pan fishing in the small ponds.

My other river rod is a St. Croix 5wt, and my salt water rod is a 9wt St. Croix.

I'm jealous. I've got 3 fly rods and haven't used any of them this summer. A good #7 wt, 8'6" and two cheaper 9' 5-6 wt rods. I generally use only a 9' tapered leader. Where are you catching these 15" trout on the Truckee? I've been to Verdi under the bridge and got one nibble in 10 trips.

Go up the river 400 yards. I'll show you the access road one day if you like. Fish between the million dollar houses and the dam.

I've fished under the bridge and around that general area since july, and I can typically catch 3 or 4 fish a night, but they're all little guys. Many under 10" :( The "bigger" fish are up river more, in the "trophy" area.

Upstream from the I 80 bridge or upstream from the Crystal Peak Park bridge? And I'd like to meet up to go sometime.
Between the dam and million $$ houses do you mean the dam at the Reno power station? I've been there, but not upstream that far.

No, not that dam. That's up by Farad isn't it?
Here's the quick and dirty directions:

coming from Reno, take the second verdi exit. Turn left. There's a street sign that says "Crystal Peak Park" right at the offramp.
The road crosses over the tracks, and you want to take the immediate left. The road is called "quilcecut" or something like that.
Drive down the poorly maintained dirt/gravel road and keep your eyes peeled for the fishing turn off on the right. There's a NDOW billboard and a gate. Plenty of parking. Cross over the foot bridge (you can see it from the parking lot) and then you can go left or right on the paths.
I have only gone left (up stream) thus far. I go down to the river, and then start fishing appx. 60 yards S of the parking area.

I was up there this afternoon taking pictures. Didn't do any fishing, as I had some other engagements for the evening.

This is the foot bridge I'm talking about looking from roughly the parking area

This is the dam
http://www.omedcalifornia.org/fish/Pictures/TruckeedamCrystalPeakResized.jpg

This is looking down stream roughly from where I start fishing

I don't think I'll make bodie this year although I should finally have my truck back around tuesday sometime. I honestly don't have much tackle at all except a i'm guessin its a spin reel, and i've always wanted to learn fly fishing. All I need to do is take one of you guys to sportsmans or somethin with me so I can get some of the good stuff and go from there. I'm up for whatever I just like gettin out and fresh fish tastes a whole lot better than store bought.

Rough water kairo ? or no plug! tell us bout the sink'n

Our boat sits in salt water up in canada over the entire summer, then it comes to Reno where it stays parked.
3 boats have had the same problem as ours--including one which sank in seattle a week after it was purchased. The main plug was totally oxidized, and crumbled to pieces inside the boat. the ass end filled up with water, and it sat there for a week or so tied to the dock before someone noticed it:gapteeth: They're welding in a plate in the back and putting in new plugs.

Beats our old boat though...It had an I/O chev 350, and we put a new motor in it every season.
