X2 I'll be towing with the WJ, for a while.

I voted Dodge gasser, since I'm running the 4.7 H.O.

My tow junk.
86 E350 4x4, bought it for 1,500 and spent about 1,500 more pimping it.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b146/rv95843/IMG_1264.jpg

Sits on 37" TSL's and has the same axles and wheels as my Rover will when my axle swap is done.

7.5l 460, sm420 case, kingpin 60 front HD 60 rear, custom wraparound rear bumper and a GPS.

Needs a tune up and some exhaust as well as new bushings and shocks, other wise the best 3k I've ever spent. Drove it from Reno to San Diego and back two weeks ago.

Yeah I like it, hopefully it'll get a 5.9l I6 Cummis. I know, a Dodge motor in a Ford but seriously, I can't hang with this gas mileage.

Anyone got a intank fuel pump and sender for the front tank, this 10 gal. rear tank is pretty beat.

With my amature bomb job I've gone from top speed of 70 mph to pulling hills with my 18 foot travel trailer at 75 mph. I am very happy with my first gen battle pig.

norm what kind of bombs have you done to your 1st gen??? what stuff can you do with the VE injection pump??

norm what kind of bombs have you done to your 1st gen??? what stuff can you do with the VE injection pump??

The first thing you do is mess with the fuel screw. This is in the back of the pump and has a seam tacked to it to keep you messing with the stock settings. I just took a flat screw driver and a hammer and gently knocked it off. under that cover resides the screw and a lock nut. loosen the lock nut and turn it in 2 complete turns.

There is a "star wheel" adjustment. you just take off a rubber cap and 17mm plug and with a screw driver rotate it down clockwise as far as it will go.

On the top of the pump is a tin cap and something called an aneroid underneath. take the cover off with a screw driver. Loosen the lock nut and with a 13mm and a star wrench screw it down untill it is flat with the lock nut.

Then there is the Full load fuel delivery rate adjustment. For this you remove the top portion of the pump which is held on with 4 screws. You will have to disconnect the electric and vacuum (for lack of a better term) connection from this (make sure you don't drop the brass seals). Once that is removed you will see a rubber diaphram. Mark the location of the diaphram and rotate this 120 degrees clockwise. This will set it at it's richest. If you desire more then rotate the diaphram left and pull up gently. this will allow you to remove the entire fuel pin assembly. Holding this in your hand you will see where the fuel stop rides up and down the pin. I rotated this in my hand and found where the fuel would be the richest and marked it with a magic marker and ground it down gently with my hand grinder untill I got it to where I wanted it. I then marked the diaphram so I could line up my work with the fuel stop (it runs towards the front of the pump (radiator side).

All this will make you wonder why Dodge intentionally detuned the crap out of the first gen trucks. The truth of it is is now you need gauges and to watch them dilligently. As with most things the more power you create you also have created more heat. An exhaust temperature guage should be a necessity. (I'm bad and haven't bought one yet) The power improvement is phenominal.

Another thing you can do is adjust the timing some. with this you loosen slightly all the adjustment nuts (I forget if it's 3 or 4). Get a REAL big set of pliars and hook one side of the pliars to the nut on top of the front valve cover and the other to the pump where it won't break. Then squeese untill you see it move just slightly and check the front timing mark on the pump. You don't want to go to far with this one. The reason you use the big pliars is that it enables you to slightly bend all the fuel lines coming in and out at the same time.

Other tricks. The stock air box is extremely restrictive. Take it off and cut several 2" holes with a hole saw to help this out. Once you do this you will be able to hear the turbo better which is cool IMO.

A bigger exhaust is good but I just took the muffler out. Now it sounds like a school bus.

My last ace in the hole is my redneck propane injection. I have a regular BBQ propane bottle I've secured in the bed of my truck. Attached to it is an accetylene regulator. I used accetylene hose and rigged it to dump strait into the airstream through the rubber hose just prior to the Turbo. I used to just set it at 4 lbs with my thumb but now as an extra precaution I just release all the pressure off the regulator and just set it each time I use it. I start the engine, let it warm up, and then I turn the bottle on and set the 'pane. You will hear it when it starts to flow. I don't recomend this setup simply because of the hazzards. You need to remember to shut off the 'pane before you do the engine. In the future I'd like to hook up a regular propane car switch activated off of a boost switch. I'd like to set it to come on at around 3-7 lbs of boost. But for now my redneck approach works. It sounds stupid but the performance enhancement is just too much for me not to do it. I usually only use the propane when towing.
