Would anyone in here be able to help me get a good deck in my jeep installed? Its only a stock tape player and I want to put a system in starting with a deck. Where should I go so that I don't get completely screwed on price and installation?

If you bought a deck and install harness from someplace like Crutchfield (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-GBkYOQ9IZG5/) I am certain that someone on here (like Kairo or Connect) could help you install it. It is not a tough job if you have the right parts and tools.

x2 on Crutchfield. They include everything you would need to install a deck and a set of good instructions. I got all of my stereos from them and did install myself.

Its not hard. I just put a new deck on my tj. I can help you out if you need to. What vehicle do you have?

Putting a deck in is SUPER easy. Buy the deck, buy an adapter harness, and get a head unit adapter (I'm not sure of the technical term but it's the piece that hold an after market DIN unit in a DIN and 1/2 hole).
Take wiring from aftermarket head unit and wire it to the adapter harness. Don't get cheap and use electrical tape. Use solder, heatshrink, etc. The instructions will have what wires got to which. Should take no more than 1/2 hour.
Hook up the wiring and see if everything works. If it does, put dash back together and enjoy.

Pretty much, I'd at least use crimped connectors, soldering the thing is a PITA but if you plan on keeping it forever it's a good idea.

Wranglers are easy. Just be careful, take your time, and solder / shrink wrap or you'll be doing it over again after a year of wheeling.
Also, if you're going to be putting in an amp / subs later, I'd encourage you to pull all the cable now, that way you don't have to do it later and take the deck out again. A good sub wiring kit will run you about $40

If you need help drop a line, if your having a shop do it, i'd go over to Sound Solutionz on glendale by the jc penny outlet store. They are great people to deal with, do good installs and won't bend you over on it.

Just open the open wallet - completely.
Figure a good deck 100-200, harness/mounting plate 20-60, front speakers 40-140, rear speakers (if you have a soundbar) 50-180, sub prices are across the board, are you planning on a custom box, pre-built, or ready to lose the back seat for some real pounding?
I have not bough amps in a while, seems like it was 180-300 for a decent 2/4 channel for the front/rears. The sub amp was 299 for 600 watts.

I'm not qute ready to lose my back seat (however I did try to take it out the other day so that my dog could ride along and i couldn't get it.) and I think the sub will be the last thing that I get just because its not entirely necessary. What is the difference between a sub and an amp? Or is it the same thing? sorry...im pretty naive.

Sub is short for subwoofer. It plays the bass and makes the low thumping, ranging from 8 to around 15 inches in diameter. The amplifier or amp takes current and increases the output of power to the sub to make it louder. Also it can send more power to speakers to make them crisper or louder. I am in the same spot as you right now. I just put in my deck and soldered the harness. Took about 45 min because I have never soldered before. Now I am installing new speakers in the bar and dash. I need to order a new speaker bracket for the dash so it will be done this week hopefully. Another good place to read up on a ton of jeep stuff is rubiconownersforum.com they have an electronics sections and a search option that has helped me many times.

make sure you have something to put behind the speakers in the brackets or it will kill the sound....cagle had a great idea and modified the factory speaker boxes for the front speakers to accept a bigger one and his really sounded great.

you might try switching your power wires from the other amp and see if that could be it. or make sure there are not wires touching by the speaker outputs or wires that could ground it, maybe even a speaker grounded out?

The protection mode usually kicks in for some/all of these reasons:
1. The OHM load of the three subs may not match the amplifier, so if you were running three 12 inch subs that are 4 ohm, and the amp is only stable to 2 ohms, that may be the problem. So try putting the subs in paralel instead of series, or try disconnecting one of the subs.
2. The main power wire may need to be a larger gauge. I run 4 gauge to my 600 watt amp in the car.
3. Speaker wires, or power/ground remote are crossed or have bad connections.
4. Heat - Does the amplifier have 5 sides free of blackage for at least 5-10 inches? The thermal shut down cicuit may be kicking in.
5. The power-on wire from the deck...does it have a fuse in-line? Is it touching anything it should not?
So start with just connecting one sub with the amp power turned down to 25%. If that does not work then it is wiring/heat or a bad unit.

I have tried disconnecting all the wire's and using the other wires from the other one so i think it is a heat problem
