Yeah, it's a month and a half away but, we've participated the past couple of years.

For some of you that recently joined:

and

http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v640/NVXJ/Virginia%20City%20Parade%2012-01-07/

I'm not sure if I'll be doing a trail run before since Bree works part time on the weekend. But, if anyone else wants to, go for it.

I'll tow one, we can light up a stripper pole in one trailer, and have a mini bar with a blender in the other.

I think the theme we've been running with the past 2 years is a sh!tload of lights. But, something a little structured would be cool.

If you're bringing a trailer, maybe a big inflatable something would be cool. Dave did that in 2006 with his CJ6.

I was think maybe a Santa in the trailer and rain deer above the jeep. Like they are taking off...

this is a great annual run and we always get a room in VC for the night-- last couple years we usually all head over there for a party, food, etc. after the parade. Remember, the parade starts right after dark, hence the parade of lights. A nice trailer float might be fun, but the parade route takes like 20 minutes to run thu and lots of people right along side the street. We just use a power source to two inverters that power a pile of christmas lights draped everywhere. Trailers are a nice addition like cj6dave has done. Once ur thru the short town run, ya gotta disassemble the mess-- ugh, knotted lights...

anyway, great event, but justin, is there a rig count limit? might find out. I'll surrender my parade place to another member that might want to be a part-- its a real kick especially tossing candy top the kids. then the after party at the union brewery...

72 Virginians
November 16th, 2008, 09:22 AM
Ok, here's the tentative plan:
I won't be participating in a pre parade trail run this year but, I'll be in VC early to help decorate.
The parade organizers wants up at the 4th Ward School by 4PM. I'll be in VC no later than 2 to help decorate. Meet me on D Street behind the Bucket of Blood.
I would like to have at least 9 "reindeer" and 1 "Santa"

A couple of you mentioned bringing trailers. The offroad style trailers could use some of the animatronic dispalys they sell at Wal Mart and Micheals.

I would also like to have someone with a flat bed to do a Reno4x4 float. The theme should be Tread Lightly, Keep Public Lands Open to The Public, or something of that sort.

I'll make the limit at 20 rigs (I think the VW group had more than that last year)

Anyway, add your name to a spot on the list if you are positive you are participating:

Reindeer-72 Virginians
Reindeer-Dave's 70 CJ6

Hwy 395 between Waterloo and Esmeralda Avenue

One of Carson Valley’s favorite holiday traditions is the annual Parade of Lights. Local businesses and organizations decorate their floats with lights of all types and colors and parade down Highway 395 from Lampe Park in Gardnerville to historic Minden Park. The Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Authority is inviting all interested businesses, groups and organizations to take part in the 12th Annual Parade of Lights on Saturday December 6th beginning at 5:00 p.m. Parade entry forms will be available in October at the Chamber offices or online at carsonvalleynv.org. Bring a folding chair, blanket and come out to enjoy a very festive parade with floats, marching bands and a surprise guest! Parade is held on Highway 395 between Lampe Park and Minden Park. If you want to be in the parade, be at the 4th Ward school no later that 4 to decorate your rig. A $5-$10 donation per vehicle would be appreciated (It pays for the VC COC to put on the parade). David walks the parade and hands them out to the littlest kids along the parade route. (You have to be kind of stealth-like, or the big kids mob you.)

Seriously, come into Virginia City from the Geiger Grade, and go all the way through town on C Street (the main drag, heading south), and just before you head out of town, at the top of the hill on the left, is the old 4th Ward School. It is a tall red building. All of the parade participants start from there. It's pretty much a Chinese fire drill, but that's part of the fun. It's going to be cold, but at least the WIND doesn't look like it will be blowing like last year!

The parade just takes a few minutes to go back down C Street northbound, and then we bail off to the right, down the hill to the new Ramada Hotel parking lot to take off our decorations under the parking lot lights. Anybody that wants to can go back up into town and hit the bars (not recommended since we all have to get back down the hill safely), or we've invited parade-goers back to our place at the base of Geiger Grade to warm up and get something to eat. We can either come straight down Geiger Grade, or take old Toll Road (dirt) down the hill from the Highlands mailboxes. We live pretty much at the bottom of the hill.

Totally flexible, whatever works, right? It's time for a little Reno4x4 Christmas spirit! We hope to see lots of you in VC this Saturday. Get there by 4 if you want to be in the parade, 3:30 is better if you overdo the decorations like we tend to do.

See you then!

sorry Shinobi and Roach were here getting them set up. Then dinner!

It takes me about 20 min to build a set. I made my first set out of 1/2" and it was to flimsy but I got the design and size down with that one in about an hour.

Sounds like a nice evening! We have one side done; it took us about two hours to agree on a design and get it put together. (20 guy minutes=120 husband-and-wife 'working together' minutes!) We're going to build a mirror set in the morning. We need a few more 45 angles from Homer.

David stopped at Marty's on the way home and they welded a couple of brackets to bolt through the exisiting holes on the sides of the windshield where the hinge brackets go for the doors to the soft top. Our antlers will come off of those brackets.

Did you wrap yours in lights yet? If so, did you tape them on or use strip ties?

Us too! That was so much fun!!! GREAT weather this year made for an extra special time.

This year with the reindeer theme we downloaded THIRTEEN different versions of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to play over the boom box (see the photo above of the 6 and you can see it on the hood). We had Gene Autry, Dolly Parton, John Denver, Burl Ives, George Strait, etc. Made listening to the same song that many times in a row bearable!

After the parade about half the group went down Geiger Grade, and the other half went 4x4 down old Toll Road. Most everyone wound up at our house for a bite to eat and some good conversation. Thanks for everyone who stopped by; it was great to put faces to some of you we haven't met before.

Kitten B, glad to hear you made it home safe. You were in good hands all the way. And the kids WILL grow up some day!!!

Here are a few photos and a video:

The back of the 6 after we just finished decorating:

Got it. PM me your number and maybe we can meet somewhere in town tomorrow. I go to church off Vassar and get out around noon. Or we can shoot for the first part of the week. After that, it goes to Duke as a doggie blanket! Heck, he's so big he may be able to WEAR it! (Only kidding on the dog part. I think.)

We had a great time this year! The weather was great. kittenb, glad you made it home alright, PM me if you need extra ATF+4. I have plenty in the garage.
Big thanks to Barb and Dave for inviting us into your home and letting Duke and Elsa play with everybody. You guys have a great home there.

I'm loading pics right now.

I checked the bottle when I got home and it was +3. It said it was ok when I got home also. Gonna check it in the AM, then run it a little & Check again!

Denis, that must be some flash you have on your camera. It carried a long way. David said he saw you and gave your son a stuffed animal. You must have been on the other side of the street from me.

It's the built-in flash in my Olympus E-500 DSLR, it does pretty well.

We were right in front of Delta, on the left as the parade moved.
