So I just got an email from JJUSA with a link to their 2009 events calendar and #10 on the list is "Nevada Heritage Tour with Mark Smith" taking place in Reno, not sure on the date. Any ideas what this is going to be like? Sounds more scenic than hardcore I think, but could be cool. I've never been to a JJUSA event. Anyone been to any? here is the link

I have been to Jeep camp put on by Jeep, and that had trail runs for everyone. Lots of fun.

Did a little reading on Mark A Smith, it sounds like the trips he put on are the best of the season. He does special trips on the rubicon aswell.

Maybe Denis will have some larger reno4x4.com stickers made up and different colors. So we can represent Reno 4x4 if that's good with you guys

Just got an email for the organizer. The trip sounds like a "tour" she said some of the driving will be on paved roads, and the bigest obstical might be 5 depending on the rains in the spring. Still sounds like a good time though, if we all go out.

I emailed them about more event info and marked the "urgent" box, so hopefully they will be getting back ASAP and we'll know more about what to expect.

So I never heard back from them about the event. It is open for registration now though. Looks like the cost is $975 a person! It is a signature event which I believe is new for them. No info on what exactly that mean though. Jamboree description:
Start your adventure in the "Biggest Little City in the World", Reno, Nevada. After a good nights rest, you'll begin your three day journey with Off-Road Hall of Famer, Mark A. Smith as he leads you through the beautiful high desert of eastern Nevada. Hear the wind as it echoes through ghost towns and let your imagination recreate the bustle of some of Nevada's most prominent mining towns. Many building and artifacts still remain to help you envision a glimpse into the past. Virginia City, Berlin State Park, Ward Charcoal Ovens, Lehman Caves, Pony Express Trail and a ride in one of the few remaining steam locomotives in North America are only some highlights of the Nevada Heritage Tour. Early registration is recommended as space will be limited.
Tow hooks mandatory.

Click on trails on the upper left and info about every event pops up. To me this event sounds like what Justin and Chris did last summer and are planning again this summer. The price is way out of my range so I am out. Could be fun but I'm not paying almost a grand to have someone show me around my backyard.

Chris and Justin's trip is much better, from a cost factor to you are flexable. Hopefully I can make it this year. I hope, they are doing it again.

I'd really like to know how they figure charging as much as they do. What does $$$$$ that include? Seems pretty ludicrous.

Could we as Reno4x4 put something like this on but mostly for the locals - I am eager to get out and test my new rig (as soon as the Tires arrive) on some pretty basic terrain, and still have fun and bring the family.
I was going to sign up for the JJUSA event cause it says Price: $0.00 but then I realized that was the shopping cart total and that each person is $975. and that is insane!

How would $300-$400 per vehicle sound?

these runs are geared to the entry-level driver-- most from CA and are new to the hobby. For all that scratch u get meals. woo hoo... looks like they'll be following 50 over to ely. this gig has their lowest trail rating '1-2', so that means gravel roads and rare use of 4wd. And you STILL have to pay ur own gas and motels, etc. I'm headed out that way in april for my annual ghost town tour and and Ely run if anyone wants to tag along, u can make an offer...LOL.
WAY TOO SPENDY for seeing stuff that is there right now, for free. All u need it time, food and gas.

So my family of 5 would be a little less than 5 grand for 3 days of dirt roads....7 days in Cancun cost me 4000.....this is why I have never attended one of their events...cost too much for too little. I'm thinking this will be the first annual and last chance run all in one year. :(

I would like to see how they justify the price. Some sort of breakdown. That price is a joke.

When I worked for a Helicopter company and we hauled everything in and out of the Rubicon for Jeepers Jamboree. They had a ton of people there that paid the same as this.
On the Con they got a jeep, 3 meals a day, tent and all camping supplies for the trip..almost everything just show up with clothes and go and have fun.

Exactly, from what I can tell, this is bring your own jeep, own gear if camping, and own gas. The only thing they seem to be supplying is a trail... or tour guide. What does all that money go towards?

If I was going to lead something like this, the cost would go towards meals and my time. $300-$400 per vehicle sounds fair for a 4 or 5 day trip. No more than 10 rigs. Believe me, it takes a lot of hours to plan a long trip like that. I must have put in 2 or 3 hours per night looking at maps and planning routes for a month before our trip last year and it still didn't turn out perfect. :(

Maybe insurance???
I thought that too, but a bunch of the other trail rides are like $300. Why would this trip insurance cost more?
edit: I just got this email reply to my questions weeks back.
"We will be posting our itinerary for this event about December 20th. Look for it on our website www.jeepjamboreeusa.com
Glenda"
So we will get to see exactly what they have planned then.

Maybe this includes a brothel tour...girls included !!! LOL That's about the only way to justify that high of a price. Trip sounds like fun and everything, but not at $975 a head. I thought $300 - $400 for the Rubicon was steep !

Or maybe the extra expense is to help "Bail-Out" the Jeep manufacturer (Chrysler-Daimler)
