As some of you know this was our first race with our new class 7 unlimited truck, so new that we had no testing time before the race. The past 3 weeks were spent down in california at hot weyer performance getting the wiring done and also with the ORBIT racing team going over the whole truck. We had the truck stripped to a bare frame just a four days before the race with no wiring on it and had no idea if the motor was going to fire. Day by day we burnt the midnight oil and slowly got it back together, changed out the tranny the drive shaft all the brake lines and all the tranny cooler and oil cooler lines got the dash back in on thursday along with the chasis wiring and tried fire the motor, no bueno. The injectors were no good, so we had to call it a night. Friday morning we were up and at it early looking everywhere for injectors we finally got a full set after tearing up a couple of motors, we get those in and try again, finally the motor fires but its smoking from one side really bad, we shut it off and the cylinder fills we fuel cause the injector is stuck wide open. Back on the hunt for new injectors, finally at about 3 in the afternoon we find someone with a match to the set we have so we drive and hour to get them, dont get back to the shop till about 6 and fire it up, it ran great. We did a little tuning and tweaking on the computer and quickly drive it around the parking lot and load it into the trailer. Im off to pahrump at 8:15pm, I arive in pahrump at 12:30 we go to walmart buy some cheap lights and go for a quick ride. The shocks needed some serious help so we did some quick adjustments and called it a night at 5 am. Alarm clock was set for 6:15am by 6:30 we were up and at it hanging fiberglass and getting some tool bags ready. We didnt start the race till about 11am so we had some time to go over some things with the crew and organize the chase trucks. We made a stop at the ORBIT crew to do some last minute schooling on shock adjustments and they quickly set our ride hight and gave us some pointers. Off to the start line to sit for another hour and wait our turn we start dead last. We thought it was a wise chioce to race this race in the sportsman class since we had no experience with the truck and no time to shake it down. We would start the race at 11:24am just before the rhinos. Making our first two passes into our class lead within two miles we were off to a good start. The cours was quickly bottle necked by mile 5 and we were running in the dust trying to make some smart passes. By mile 11 we had enough getting shot with rocks so we started to gat a little agressive making people move. We were moving right along and bye pit one we were already passing some 7s trucks and had already passed the H3 we were hot on the hunt for the H2 and the rest of the class 7 field. At pit 2 we were running and clean race and had an average speed of 62mph. We were off and going again just behind the orbit class 7 staying in there dust all the way till pit three where Mike would get out and let L.R. take over, they took off out of three just in front of us, we had them in our sight all the way till 4 where they would stop to fuel and we would keep going so that we could say we ran in front of roesler. At 5 they were just a minute behind us and would take the lead and hold it all the way to the finish. We did a quick driver change at 5 and were off into the silt and whoops. We were suprised with the truck it handled the big whoops at an average of 65mph and flew threw the big silt beds like we had 39's. In heavy dust all the way to 6 we had to clean the air filter and put some oil in the motor, by the time we finished up there we couldnt see the dust from the orbit truck but the H3 caught up so we were just passing him when we got a flat, I was out of the truck and changing that tire knowing that if anyone else passes us we could be in there dust all the way home. We get going again and quickly catch up to the hummer but at 7 we had to stop again to clean the air filter we had some trouble gettin the truck started but we were off again heading home, the rest of the course was really rocky so we were carefull to not get a flat, heading to the finish was unreal no major problems we kept it off the lid all day and we just barely made it to the race it was an incredible feeling to see the finish line and knowing that we just finish first in class for our first race with a truck we built, all the hard work from everyone paying off. We would like to thank all the people who helped, mike and jeremy and the whole shaffers off road crew, the Bolton racing team, team Orbit, cory at Hotweyer performance, and The Kona Coffee and Tea Co. Thanks for all the support and we look forward to serving you in the future.
