So I need one of those badges that lets me legally drive offroad in CA (I think I need one?)
Whereabouts can I get one?
Thanks in advance.

DMV
btw, you don't need one for a street legal, registered vehicle.
The Green Sticker Or Red Sticker: If you are going to operate a motorized vehicle off-road only, you must have either a Green Sticker or a Red Sticker that has been issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The Green Sticker allows vehicles to operate on public land all year. The Red Sticker is for motorcycles and ATVs model year 2003 and newer that do not meet the emission standards established by the California Air Resources Board. If the vehicle has a 3 or a C in the eighth position of the Vehicle Identification Number, then it does not meet the emission standards and should be issued a Red Sticker. The Red Sticker is exactly the same as the Green Sticker except that these vehicles can only be operated during certain times of the year. To find out when you can operate your vehicle, call the specific riding area that you want to visit or you can look it up on the CARB website at http://www.arb.ca.gov/homepage.htm.

Do you know if I have to go to Galetti or can I get one from an express DMV?
Is there a site that lists the requirements so I know I can get one before I bother to go there?
Thanks again

if you're asking for your Jeep, then you don't need one as long as it's street legal and has current registration. Green stickers are for offroad-only vehicles, that are not legal to drive on the street.

Wonderful, the more you know.
Thanks for the advice.

there is a murky area in CA known as 'dual registration', meaning its plated AND stickered. They use a red sticker i think. I'm still trying to understand the differences-- Why would a plated vehicle need a sticker?
the green stickers can be had at several local motorcycle/quad shops-(eg. RMS, BVH, etc) - altho i'm informed there are no longer any stickers per se left-- you just keep the receipt w/ ur rig and show that to the po-po if asked.

Are you a Nv resident? you dont need a sticker, you need an out of state OHV sticker, you can get them at Thin Air or True Value in Truckee, they cost $20, no questions asked, You need to have your NV ID with you while you wheel. This is how a lot of NV residents ride their bikes and sled in CA, applies to any off road vehicle.
Good luck

I believe that is for if you are Registered in NV and you don't meet CA laws, such as mud flaps or tires sticking outside the flares. You have the sticker then they won't ticket you.

Exactly, if ur NV rig doesn't meet the Cal vehicle code requirements, u can get a ticket, but if u have the orange sticker (not the 'green' one) u'll get out of the fix-it ticket.
Seems odd, but this is what i understand after talking w/ the CA OHV folks.
I wonder how many NV rigistered trail rigs won't pass a CA vehicle equipment inspection?
