looks like the good old party spot has escaped the government bulldozer, but the upper, latter constructed site, will be decommissioned. Go see it while u still can, altho there is not much to see. The older concrete ruins will stay! Good for history buffs!

I'm actually surprised that they're not tearing it all down. Not that I want to see it go.

Any idea exactly when this is suppose to happen? Maybe one more trip there should be in the very near future.

i work at the mine there. the upper mill they just started last week and hardly anything is left. they arent even touching the lower one. good to see. it's amazing how fast they dissasembled the upper though. the floatation pond is the last thing left- the steel buildings are all being cut up (by scary attachments on excavators- looks like a giant scissor!) if you guys want any pics i can post a bunch i've taken.

by the way the mine road is a county road so you can drive on it- it's the one right before the 35 mph speed limit sign down towards silver city. right hand traffic- so if any of you have worked on a mine site- dont drive on the left!!! all the guys there are pretty cool about it- just try not to start any fires and torch the place!

oh wow we were just wheeling out in washoe this sunday and came back through VC instead of back through washoe and were wondering what all the machines down there were doing there, we could see from up on the hill though. That kinda sucks I hate seeing all the old mining stuff gone.

yeah it's pretty crazy how fast it went too- now they are just cutting up the metal- soon they will start on the floatation pond.

Did ya have the urge to swim in the blue/green pool?

If you ever have the chance, go to the Mark Twain Bookstore and check out some of the pics of the area. You won't believe how much was actually there when it was in operation.
