dude the pictures and captions make it sound like they drove up to bassi falls and thought it was the con. i dunno that writeup symbolizes everything i dislike about the "im going to show my power as a woman" i prefer the women that just do it and dont say and i could because im a woman.

I thought it would get a rise out of somebody.
I didn't recognize any of the places they were at though. I haven't been on the 'con yet but I've seen the pics all of you guys have posted and the ones in the article look nothing like those places.

Some passages on the Rubicon Trail are quite constrained and even require outside mirrors to be folded in for proper clearance.

Wow, you guys are true doushce bags. XJ guys (Kairol and Connect) calling an H3 an inferior vehicle:bs: Seems you guys hate women because they hate you, and hate Hummers because they are better than what you have;)
H3's are badass stock. They actually have a frame. They come with 33's and lockers. True a Rubicon is a better rockcrawler and a good buy, but to drive both, an H3 is more fun and drives much better. That was a media event for the Hummers, what did you expect, competition rockcrawling from those chicks.
The group of military guys up there were a group that I do a short repair class for. Kind of cool that Seal guys are trained how to drive H1's up on the Rubicon.

I dont know about H3's being cool. I have actually wheeled one, even wrote a thread about it on this site. My buddy who sales rental cars in sac town for enterprise rent a car brought one up. It was the base model, no lockers not much but a chevy colorado. It performed worse than most anything I ever drove off road. My ranger would of wiped that one all over the hill side. Now lockers and 33s might be different but from what I drove it sawked.
But funny to sam hear throwing down on those two clowns:chuckle:

Yea, I have never drove the base model, but the off road one with 33's, with a set of bolt on Fox shocks is an all around great rig on and off road. We pre ran the 1000 last year with one and it was nice. We beat the hell out of it, and all it broke was the exhaust near the muffler. They handle good on high speed dirt roads really good, and drive much better than a solid axle front rig.
People like to bag on them, but when it comes down to it, they are a good off road rig. Not pure rockcrawlers, but capable enough to run the nearby trails in stock form.
I do hate all the crappy acessories you can get for them though. I saw a gold one down at the Hummer dealership with a bunch of crap on it that was completely gay. Of course there are those Jeep body kits with the fender flares that are competitively gay.

What a great idea...Get some soccer moms out of the "liberal enviro-nazi" mentality, place them in a nicley equiped vehicle on an over used tail (That is under more scrutiny than perhaps any other trail in the nation) and take some good public relation shots.
When was the last time the Rubicon trail was getting positive media attention instead of closures or more possible closures? For once it wasn't some asshat driving off the trail or an alcohol related wreck.
Let them burn their bra's. Better yet, burn all their clothes...Especially the hot ones;) More power to them and all of the positive media they can bring to the sport.
If your still reading this their pic is at the springs. In roughly the same place as my shot (Which at this point is making me question my estrogen level) :avid:

I never bagged on the H3, I happen to like them alot. The off-road package with the E-locker, 4.56 gears, and 4:1 low range kicks ass. If only they didn't cost so much new hehe

I dont own an XJ anymore.
And for the record, I don't have anything against the hummer, I just dont like the agenda pushing women. "I am woman, i drive truck offroad, see my independence. rawrrr" That's what I dont like.
And don't be an asshole, I need some gears changed out and I'd hate to have to go somewhere else:nono:

I didn't take offense to the whole female empowerment slant to the article. The whole idea of treating the Rubicon like a weekend "dude ranch" was annoying. I haven't run the trail yet but I've always been told that a long list of things is required to run the 'con. I've read trail reports and articles. So, I've spent a lot of time and money getting my rig ready for a run next year. Then I came across this article. All I saw was a bunch of weekend warriors screwing around and complaining about dirt and whatnot.
Yes, it does bring attention to our sport/hobby but do we really need more unprepared people on the Rubicon?

i have done the con and i agree with 72. we dont need a whole bunch of people thinking that their stock rigs will go through the rubicon. there are already a bunch of people that do break then next thing would be people with stock rigs and no parts or tools broke down in the middle of the trail.

We hit the first turn at Big Sluice at dark took us about 2 hours (letting traffic pass, watching it flop, and get stuck) to get all 5 rigs through. We had a hard time deciding between spotting with flashlights or using our lights.
Using you light blinds the spotter, using flashlights leaves the driver in the dark. Either way it was an experience of a lifetime, but I wouldn't recommend it :D
The H3's and the Xterra were fine, it was stuffing the H2's that took time.

I'm sorry but a trip from Tahoma to Rubicon Springs isn't really that difficult. The only real obstacle on Cadlilac hill is the waterfall. Not trying to be mean. I think it's much more mean to tell people you can do the con in a stock vehicle. Yes I know it can be done but with the traffic it's not really fair to others who have built their rig for the terrain. Just my .02
I don't have anything against any type of vehicle. If you are built for the terrain then I'm all for it.

We did a ton of research, including speaking personally with the Rubicon trail Patrol. We new we would be slow, so we made extra efforts to prepare, and educate our group.
We had:
spare parts
tools
straps
winches
cb's
frs's
food water
2 built rigs (for the first day)
flood lights
PETT toilets
Wag Bags
Trash bags etc.
We even posted on Pirate in hopes of warning the "Built Rigs" that we would be out there.
We did not walk into this uneducated. We experienced no mechanical failures, and very little damage. We went from Loon to Tahoe.
We did do it in stock vehicles. We started on a Friday. We were there for 3 days, completely enjoying ourselves. We left Loon at 9am and got to Spider at 3pm. Next day we left Spider at 10am and hit Big Sluice by sundown (at night thinking there would be less traffic) made it to the springs by 12am. We went from the Springs to Tahoma in 6 hours as well.
We did everthing right, or so we thought. We saw many rigs on the trail that weekend...many. We moved for every one of them. Only 2 people in the 20 or so we encountered, complained.
Some people are impatient, more vocal, and have unrealistic expectations. Some are even border on elitism. The Rubicon is a public trail. It is there for everyone to enjoy.
I am going to stop apologizing now.
See you out on the trails:)

I think it is fair to say that any fullsize including Hummer H1's and H2's should not run that trail during a busy weekend, unless you have a really built fullsize that already has a ton of body damage or massive body armor. An H3 by itself can run that trail pretty easily, and quickly, but an H2 is too big. H1's can drag through a lot of stuff, but it does take time.
How fast do some of the faster guys run the whole trail. I did it a few years back from Loon Lake to Lake Tahoe in 12 hours, but we were in line at the Little Sluice for a few hours, so I would say I ran the trail in about 7 or 8 hours. We ran sort of quickly, but I bet you could do it in 5 or 6 hours on a weekday if you ran pretty hard. To do it all in one day takes some of the enjoyment out of the trail.

You can't really go up there with an attitude like that or you'll be pissed the whole time. There will always be a group or rig causing a traffic jam. Sometimes you can get around. Sometimes you can't. When I was up there it was an Extera group that was slowing progress followed by an Early Bronco who had ripped it's steering box off the frame.
There is everything up there from Hikers, ATV users, Extreme wheelers, and stock vehicles. I can say the time I went I was running 38s and it was just enough so I didn't have to get out and stack rocks all the time. If you are running stock there would be alot of rock stacking and spotting. Very tiring IMO.
I've only been once and I can say the con is the best wheeling experience I've ever had. It's the reason I've ripped so much sheet metal off the body of my truck. I can't wait to go back. The one word of advice I'd give those who haven't run the trail is to be patient and make sure you've give yourself time to get out. If you go out with the sunday rush it will be slow going.

I agree on the attitude, I've only been there once so Im a newbie as far as that goes, however I know trail edicut and understand what happens on the trail. Hell, we held up all the brand new jeeps on Cadillac for over an hour due to breakage, thats part of wheeling....
I just dont agree with taking stock hummers on a busy weekend or any weekend during the summer. We took a stock ford ranger through the trail and he had it easier than most built rigs, I was very impressed....
