well here is an update, I did find myself that Mosin Nagant I wanted. It is a 1939 all matching #'s un arsenaled condition, Very happy with it. Okay on to what the hell I've done to it. 1st put a scope mount on. After searching around the web and finding some mounts, mostly all about $50 to my door, I decided to do it my way. I purchased a scope mount for a Ruger Blackhawk pistol and whacked it up. Fitted it to the rifle like the ones I found for $50, However it only cost me $22.
2nd Cut up the bolt and fit it up to the mount.
3rd Mount up a scope I chose a BSA Contender 12x50 mostly for looks as it is a big ass scope. At $99 I felt that I couldn't go wrong with that. Some weaver mounts(they clear the bolt) and got er dunn.
Next I am going to put a bipod on. Prolly going to do it 2morrow as I am very excited. Here is some pics, Enjoy

Now please give us the rest of the story. How did you hear of these rifles, what led you to it, etc.

I know the story of the Mauser 98, so is this something similiar?

Going to use it for hunting, target practice, or just as a conversation piece over the fireplace?

Nice. You'll be able to see a wee bit further with that scope over the stock sniper scope. Ammoman.com has some surplus 7.62x59 for sale that shoots really well in these...and because it's steel core ammunition, one of the latent benefits is that it's armor piercing ;) Is it a Tula or Isevsk Arsenal rifle?

Here's a shot of my Ishy sniper:

This rifle has a lot of history associated with it. The Russians have had snipers for a very long time and they have been used quite effectively. The K98's with optics mounted were a bit fragile compared to a Mosin...You just cant beat a rifle that can be dropped out of a tree and fired accurately :)

http://7.62x54r.net/ has most of the information you would want to know about these rifles.

want to meet up and go shooting sometime? i have a turkish mauser (1938) that i love- trying to decide if i want a scope or not- figure i could take a look at yours and see how hard it is to do... got to love the pre WWII rifles... i can drop 200 rounds through mine (before it gets too hot to hold the wood) and never have a problem with accuracy. one of my buddies paid out the ass to fix up his .300 win mag. it's accurate as **** to 1000 yards, but he cant put more than 10 rounds through in half an hour or his accuracy will die.... funny as hell.

I've seen a couple of these turned into 'Twedes'...essentially you take a Swedish Mauser barrel (excellent steel aged to perfection and the awsome ballistics of the 6.5x55 round) and screw it on the Turk action. It's hard to find a Swede in decent shape, but there are barrels out there. Aside from the high-dollar Kimber, the Swede is the most accurate rifle I own.

The cool thing is that our snipers are effectively killing with them at over a mile away... If that doesn't strike the fear of ALLAH in them towel head nutjobs !!!what will... Can I get a HOORAH !!:D

I would think an AC-130 Spectre would do the job of placing fear.

I've got a few of the K-31's. One I sporterized, one that is currently a test mule for sights (that will be going back to the factory ones), and the other is original configuration. They are great rifles and very accurate.
