Where's some of your favorite places to camp at?
making this for everyone to get ideas from etc..
so far my favorite place has been the old Masonic Mine site in Lower town where the little grass clearing is.

I enjoy the forest south of Lake Tahoe for back-packing trips. In Reno, i've done some camping in the hills NW of Mt. Rose, and also back in the boonies out by Bronco Canyon.
Tread lightley, and don't leave trash!

I like to go out to wall canyon, up in north Washoe County, past the black rock desert on the 447. Long drive and no cell service. But if you want to go camping and not see anyone the whole time that's where to go.
I used to go up to the meadows up thomas creek but they closed that off back in 2001, and no campfires what so ever.

Eek. That's where I was talking about. I didn't realize there was no camping or fires

Had a campfire last time i was up there, A brush truck came up to the camp site and foamed the campfire with half cooked steaks on the grill. :maddance: we got the point.

the big smokey valley area is just beautiful. i went on a run out there from carvers east through the Mt. Jefferson area and into Jefferson then Manhattan and back to Round Mountain.. wasnt a very long run, but it was a lot of fun.

i like kingston canyon-- good camping just west of the kingston inn below the fishing lake. The road from there up and over to Big Creek (on the reese river valley side) is an adventure, especially if u get to winch over the glacier right at the top, since it usaually blocks the trail well into late summer. Ophir canyon to the mining ruins, twin rivers, taylor creek, birch creek, etc all are fine fine places to explore. my friend has a ranch near smokey joes and thats a good place to stage out from-- also, pete's summit road (spencers hot springs!!!), toquima cave, northumberland trail from BS over to monitor valley is fun. Diana's punchbowl, potts, bel;mont, etc. all awesome places to explore.

good thread.
i'll add jarbidge. its a hike to get out there, so i wont go unless i have three or 4 days. i've been in every route, but my favorite is the charleston route. in the fall, the giant aspen forest is yellow on the bottom and green on the top of the mountain.

Tabor creek is a cool place to go, its just north of wells, nv in the snake range, good elk herd there too. had an archery tag there 2 years ago, area 075, saw a few large(350-370) bulls but could never get close. missed about a smaller 300-310 bull the last day. ended up with tag soup. fun though. good brook trout fishing.

Gotta second this...I end up there 4-5 times a summer at least. Pardoe's/Squaw Ridge Road is another favorite, but I don't care for the lower camping areas...too many 2-legged critters with "issues"; camping adjacent to the wilderness area is where it's at. Sna...er, ah, I mean Gold Lake is another one I like.

I did that one a long time ago. I haven't seen the cutoff for it since though. It's hidded pretty good. The part I remember is that biiiig slab where you cruise across off camber. That and the gate was locked when I got down. Is that gate still kept locked? Hell, That was like 18 years ago. It'd be cool to find it again.
