This is not your average trail :D

There is a Nevada pinstriping section with some water crossings then the ROCKS

This is an all day event so bring appropriate amount of food and water. Lunch and possibly dinner depending on amount of vehicles on this run. Don't forget lots of liquids and snacks (NO ALCOHOL)

Skid plates and rocker protection are highly recommended. Don't be surprised if you have damage or breakage.

Take a look at the trail run requirements section for needed equipment.

Post any questions

Please post if you plan to come so we can get a idea of the amount of rigs for this run.

Meeting Time 8:30 am leave at 9:00

I went through it with 31s. you just need to pick the right line and have a good spotter. There is a byepass to go around the worst part.

I dont think i will be taking my xj this time. I want to ride with someone so I can video the event and not worry about moveing my jeep. (eric ) ;)

Not really! If your into rocks this is for you. You do need to be lifted and atleast 31s a locker would make it easier. There is a byepass for the worst part (zebaru knows this spot really well ;) )

Pizzajeep are you going? I wanna seeya go through the last section.

hell yes im going ...its an absolute for sure here and ill probably take the day off of work so that i can make it with you all day. My passenger seats are open if you wanna ride(xjmoser or nevada xj)
i dont mind guinea pigging my jeep and going first through stuff, but i want to use a little more throttle control.. i may have my 35's on by that time but im not sure... i doubt the tires i have on it now will last that long... so expect me to rolling on 35s id say

You'll be fine. It's really not a bad trail. There are alot of lines to pick from in the rocky area. Your Jeep will make it just fine.

I don't like it because I had alot of bad experiences on it, and I never got to teh rocks.

Stalled the Jeep out turning around in a deep water hole (exhaust pipe dug into mud and killed it)

Was trying to get through another water crossing, and suddenly heard a *pop* and then a whole bunch of hissing noise. (water jit my exhaust, not sure what the pop was, though)

Came down on my rear bumper really hard, and then slammed my front bumper into another rock....

Yes, there is a return route on the top side of the canyon, that will bring us out to the spot where we entered, then we just have to go back out to Lousetown road.

However you can certainly run it both directions if you like... it all meets at the same place....

Hey Rockape I went threw it last yr in Feb. When the hills angles put on a run for the CA4WDC convention. The tuff part is only 1/4 mile long. I was with Raji he took his full size Dodge with open diffs & 35's. but he has the 4 to1 t-case in it. I think there was 12 to 13 rigs went into bronco. and it took about 4 to 6 hrs to make it. If i remember right there were couple of broken drive lines and flat tire and one broken front axle on a jeep. Drive lines were on a scout. And some good dents on toyotas There are many different lines to take. Also there a coulpe of bypass's.
Some of the lower rigs had more trouble hanging up on the rocks. We did not get out of there to about 8pm or so.

RARECJ8

You should be able to park by the fire dept. on Lousetown road. It should be safe there.

I'd respectfully suggest NOT parking there-- remember Bronco Canyon and all that back country is private prioperty. Last fall the sierra stompers parked the trailers there and it caused quite an uproar w/ the locals. Jim F. from N'th degree Mobility lives up there and that is a regular hot topic at the Highlands home owners meetings. maybe leave it in VC? Anyway, the meetingfs have suggested new gates, so i'd suggest being discreet. CVome in via long valley or the TRW road from Lockwood...

mb

Zebaru
March 31st, 2005, 02:56 PM
If the TRW gates are open, then you can drive on a well graded gravel road to within about 3 or 4 miles of the entrance to Bronco. If it isn't there is room to park a tow rig down by the entrance to the big gravel pit (people do it with ATV trailers all the time) and you have about a half hour drive through washington and into lousetown from the back side. Coming in from Fernley, I use these two options to get there anyway.

Soon I will post up the few pictures I have of our last trip there, and the beating that I subjected my little XJ to...

Throttle boy and I have been talking about it,and we need somewhere our truck and trailers will be safe(I dont want someone stealing my pimpin 20s and Throttle dont want his gold teeth took neither! :D ).How long is Bronco canyon?(miles)Also ,are youall running biggest tires leads? The reason I ask is because it is usually easier for the larger tired rigs to help the smaller tired ones through the tough spots from the top.(Not to mention when pizzajeep breaks I will have an easier time parking on top for the money shot  )

Well, people keep asking for pictures, so here are a couple of pictures I have from the last trip through.

This is the last picture I took of my straight jeep. This is just about where the road form Lockwood joins Lousetown road.
http://www.zebaru.reno4x4.com/jeepcleans.JPG

The only good picture I have of the trail itself. This is the spot where I ran into trouble. The picture doesn't show it well, but this little part was nasty. A TJ on 35's, an unlimited on 37's, and Zebra Steve here all had some degree of difficulty getting through. I have no idea why I thought I could. The reason the picture is blurry is that it was reasonably dark, and I didnt want to use my flash.

Here are a couple of pics from the aftermath.

Here's Mr. Frens' email regarding parking at Highlands firestation.

Thanks for the heads-up Mark. Parking at the Highlands firestation is NEVER
a good idea...much less with trailers and 4x4 rigs rambling off into the
boonies past all of the new houses being built right there by the station.
All clubs that are aware of BC need to be made aware of the fact that ALL of
the area up there including BC itself, the area around the firestation, and
even the roads are PRIVATE. The locals aren't fuming over last season's
transgressions, but even two trailers parked at the firestation and rigs
deploying for all to see will surely 'fire' that all up again...and you know
how it gets worse each time. Please PLEASE convince all groups headed to
BC to use either Lockwood off I-80 or Long Valley off of Lousetown Rd. If
using Long Valley, it would be best if the tow rigs were left somewhere in
VC itself (suggest the public lot on the north side of the VC gas station),
that way no Highlands locals driving Lousetown will be able to figure out
you're even back there unless they see you going - and there's no real ire
in that. The name of the game is to be as incognito as possible to avoid
triggering an access feud...which will affect all of us. This 'discretely
trespassing on private land' situation is permanent - and tranquil - for
now...it can only get worse, so again please educate all groups to avoid
parading themselves and their intentions right through the middle of the
Highlands! Thanks Mark...

We will be going to Bronco Canyon by way of Lockwood to avoid any problems in the VC Highlands

It wasn't that bad. There was a bypass available for that part, I just didn't take it at first. I got into the hard spot, couldn't go forward, and since it was getting late and dark, I decided I could back out. That was where I did all my damage. I probably would have been okay if I had just had someone tug me forward.

Other than that, I would not have had any significant damage. I think this is a great little trail, and I should be going back on this next run. This is one of those places where the hardcore and not so hardcore can play together. As others have already said, the rocky spot is about 40 ft wide and a quater mile long, and you can pick and choose your line. XJmoser made it through on 31's (open) with no damage, while a couple of guys on 33's did some minor damage while taking harder lines.

Just take the road down Long Valley from the VC side. I doubt anyone will care about one rig. Just drive politely...

The road goes right past the Bronco exit, and basically ends at the North entrance to Bronco (which is actually in Long Valley).

There are petroglyphs in a canyon that runs parrallel to Bronco Canyon. I would like to have lunch at the petroglyphs and then do Bronco. Shouldn't be a problem if we leave early as planned, but if the majority of the group doesn't want to stop there thats fine with me also.

RARECJ8
April 6th, 2005, 09:44 AM
Simple instructions: Head east on 80 like ur going to Ferntuckey and about 3 miles or so east of Vista Blvd. is the Lockwood exit. No gas there in over 5 years--- darn floods or EPA stuff... Anyway, take the Lockwood exit and it'll take u SW down hill and follow the paved road across the river. This is the way to the regional land fill. Follow the paved road past the landfill and just before you get to the DT mining operations, you can go left on the TRW road (wide, graded road w/ perpetually open gate) or right and take Largomasino Canyon, but this way is really long to get to BC and the petroglyphys. One poster said there is a short cut from MCCarran, but i'm not familiar with that. There used to be a way in from Hidden Valley or from behind the water treatment plant, but the old ways in are now chained/gated/blocked. Lockwood is the fastest and most direct way in to BC, VC, Long Valley, etc.

hope this helps.

once one exits 80 at lockwood and goes down thge hill, just before the river on the right side is a large open lot where many folks leave their trailers, etc. There used to be a market there, but now its just a big open field.

Bronco canyon has some spots worthy of a buggy on 40s and Throttles Rig on 42s??If not really a challenge we may have to make our own fun
