  1. Rebuilding a Chevy starter?

Has anyone here ever rebuilt a Chevy / AC Delco starter? I think the starter in the Cruiser is bad (SBC). It turns over real slow. I thought it was the battery, but I swapped it with another vehicle and the same results, other vehicle starts fine, FJ turns over real slow. I can get a rebuilt one at Kragen for $50, or a rebuild kit for $9 + shipping. I would have to wait on delivery of the kit. How hard is it and is it worth the time?

  3. 94 YJ Door

So a while back, I was on HLT with AlboyXJ and a tree found its way into my driver side window. The tree kinked and pinched the track that the main window rolls into, only allowing it to roll up part way with two inches open. The other day I tried rolling it down and the regulator popped out of the window, and now it is torqued a bit from the pressure. I am looking into some parts, but dont really want to put more money into it. The metal looks like it should be able to be heated and bent back into shape, in both places. I just dont have the tools to do this. I am trying to fix it as inexpensively as possible since I lost my job. Does anyone have any experience with these things? Willing to help? Just need a quick fix.

  7. "Boiling" a gas tank

I've heard the expression of "boiling" a gas tank or old gas can to clean it out of old rust or whatever. Just what does this mean? ( I know you don't fill it with water and put it on the stove!) Sounds like it is a chemical reaction to remove the rust, but what chemical is used and how do I do it ??? I have a couple of gas tanks and two Jerry cans that need de-rusting. Any ideas??????

  8. Damn dim lights !

I've noticed the headlights on my '06 TJ are not very bright. Switching to high beam doesn't seem to help much. Does anybody know of replacement lights (sealed beam) which are brighter or better? I think regular KC type "driving lights" of the 100w to 150w variety might be too bright for street use. Any suggestions ?????

  9. 2010 Update on the rescued Roadrunner Also I could use some help in Gardnerville

I have posted this car up a few times. I bought it in Fernley about a year and a half ago. Trailered it home. Buffed out the paint, restriped it, new trim, restored the grill, new carpet, restored all the interior panels and seats, repaired the dash, had the factory tach restored, and alot of elbow grease. The car is now running and is almost to driver quality again after being parked for 10 years. Interior is almost complete. Anyone local want to help me wrench on the mechanicals? I am good at alot of stuff, but not the best on motors. The timing has issues, the headers are shot and need replaced, and a few other mechanical issues. I've already rebuilt the double pumper, repaired the wiring issues, new gas tank and pick up, and got it running ok. I'm hoping to be driving it in April or May. Here are a few updated pics! 11. Anyone want to go in on or rent me some shop space?

My passion for metalworking and auto tinkering has outgrown my backyard and 3 car garage. I dont have any room on my property to build another garage, so I've been looking around and think I could find a pretty decent shop for under 1000 a month. So if anyone wants to go in on a shop and co-sign the lease, let talk. I have a muscle car, jeep, Harley, flatbed trailer, 4 welders, full oxy/acy setup, ac compressor, Miller plasma cutter and a giant collection of hand and specialty tools. I want to be able to have a place to go and work on my projects, but honestly I work too much and probably won't get a chance to be there too often at all, but would love to have a place I can store my rigs and work on them from time to time, so If someone has a shop now and wants to rent me some space that would be great as well- let me know - private message me so it goes to my email

  12. Jeep wrecking yard

I know there is a place in Sacramento that specializes in Jeeps almost exclusively. What's the name of it???? Anybody know much about it, if they are good prices or whatever, worth the drive over the hill?? Are they like Pick-N-Pull or do they take the parts out and have them sitting there? Do they have Scout parts too? OK, enough questions. I'm thinking maybe after the holidays take a trip down there...maybe take some orders or several of us go together.

  16. 2003 Audi A4 quattro awd problem

I need some ideas, my wife's car is having problems. The AWD isn't working, if you put the slightest pressure on the brake pedal on ice, they lock up. You can't put more then 1/2" of pressure on brake pedal on the ice, but on dry pavement, everything's fine. Last winter it was fine, I couldn't make it slide, now I can't get traction. The ESP won't engage or stay engaged....I think that's it, I can't even get it out of my driveway! Thanks

  18. Windshield cracked

Well this morning when I closed the door of my Jeep, I heard a popping sound and then noticed a crack in the windshield. It was -3 this morning at my house and appears the cold weather conspired to crack the windshield. I am hopeful that just the crack can be fixed so I do not have to shell out for a completely new windshield. Having been awhile since having windshield problems where do you suggest I go?

  20. Advice from turbo guys

This is yet another Q&A thread for future build planning... The question is: If you take a modern, standard EFI engine and run boost, do you believe the fuel system of this standard engine could handle a small boost up to 3-5psi? Short question over, here's the explination of why I'm asking (if you don't want to read a novel, just answer the question above). So I think I want a remote turbo. If you've never heard, google STS (Squier Turbo Systems out of TX). They basically make a "universal turbo" that can go onto any car. My 3.5L is a Hyundai replica of the Mitsubishi 6G74, which me thinks makes it a suitable candidate for boost. My plan thus far: -Remote turbo kit

  21. jeep hard top wiring

So last year I picked up a hard top for one of my jeeps. its a 1997 TJ, the top has rear defrost and wiper. So is there a kit or any wiring diagrams to hook up the rear defrost on this year TJ ? I don't think they had it that year, but I could be wrong.

  23. NEW CAT.. NEW PROBLUM

Today I was headed to Truckee and was noticing a serious lack of power.. more then normal. I turned around headed back to Reno. I would go to (Landis Muffler) but they were closed so I had to go to Midas. Nice People, but way over priced. Long story short, I had a $674.55 Cataletic Converter installed. It solved the problum, runs much smoother, but here is the problum.. When I start to get on the gas, it stumbles a little, if I dont keep my foot in it, It dies. Like backing up to the trailer.. if I try to back up with just a little gas.. and let off.. it dies. Do I need to have the computer reset or is something else wrong??

  24. SOA for an early CJ5

I have completed the spring over for the rear, looking at my handy work, I decided to start the front. But then I am having 2nd thoughts on going through with the SOA. Anybody have any thoughts on a SOA for an early CJ? My thoughts are "this is a bit high for such a narrow axle" and "what the !@# am I going to do with all this steering linkage" and "I could just go buy a lift kit and put the springs back in place, but then I am out $500, so far I have paid a whopping $30 for the spring over".
