This Saturday, November 21, our new Reno Chapter of HOPE Worldwide is sponsoring a Drive-Up Coat Drive from 10 am to 3 pm at the new Record Street Shelter in downtown Reno. Gently used coats, jackets, sweatshirts, hats, gloves and other cold weather clothing is needed for those less fortunate. I thought it might be fun to have a Reno 4x4 'unparade' to the Shelter in our rigs to drop off the donations. We could meet in the big parking lot where the Pioneer used to be at Virginia and Liberty at a designated time (11?) and then caravan up Virginia Street, under the arch, and then east on Fourth Street over to Record to drop off the donations. After that we could continue east on Fourth Street and go to Scoopers Drive-In for lunch. I know this conflicts with the Ham Cram on Saturday, so it may be too much for one day. If there is interest, and we do get it together, I'll need to hitch a ride with someone. David's attending the Ham Cram. Another option would be for...
Location: World Famous Mustang Ranch Date and Time: Nov. 7th 6:00 PM
Bunch of grumpy old farts going on a ride tomorrow. We are going to meet at the Golden Valley Raley's around 0940 on Sunday and head up to Cold Springs, go in behind Bordertown and up towards Crystal Peak and into Dog Valley, then up to Henness Pass (snow depending) and then we will decide which way to go from there. Sober people with working rigs, recovery gear, and minimum 32" tires welcome to attend. One locker recommended or at least a good limited slip. This will hopefully be a fast paced run since we're over the whole poser shot, flex on a rock thing. The only thing that will slow us down is food and being stuck or broken parts. There will be at least 2 winches on this run, so don't be scared. As long as you have recovery points and a strap you will be fine.
I am planning on moving to the area. Don't know the local wheeling but would like to join some guys for a day if anyone is going out. Must leave on the 4th for TDS. Thanks, Thom
Sorry for the late notice... Buffalo Wild Wings Summit Sierra Monday, March 1st 7:00 PM Some of you know what this is about, those who don't - come anyway - meet some new people, eat some good food. - see what Reno4x4 is about.
I made it down to Las Cruces again this year for the annual Chile Challenge. I really enjoy this event, awesome rockcrawling, great vehicles and people, and the best part for me is that it is only a couple of hours away so instead of hopping on a plane I can actually bring my truck. Friday I ran Tabasco Twister, which features many of the ledges that Cruces is famous for, including "The Abyss". http://www.harrysituations.com/cruces/m_IMG_9018.jpg http://www.harrysituations.com/cruces/m_IMG_8962.jpg http://www.harrysituations.com/cruces/m_IMG_8995.jpg

On Sunday 1-31 we installed a 2" Skyjacker lift in my TJ. When we were done, we just HAD to try it out. We (Kyle XJ, my daughter, and myself) headed up HLT. We got about a mile past the Trail Sign when Kyle got stuck and we decided to head back down. Near the bottom, there is a large mud puddle we HAD to go through. Nothing special, but when we were done, I noticed some awsome patterns in the mud on my back window. It looks like a floral pattern from a casino carpet or something. If you look closely (and squint just right), there is even a demonic face in there! http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp197/bitosin/HLT%20and%20MUD/101_4469.jpg http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp197/bitosin/HLT%20and%20MUD/101_4470.jpg http://i411.photobucket.com/albums/pp197/bitosin/HLT%20and%20MUD/101_4513.jpg

The monthly meeting is tonight at 6pm at Boulevard Pizza. All are welcome to meet-n-greet. We are hosting a booth at Al Lockett's Motorsports Expo next month at the Convention Center and are looking for interested persons to volunteer for a time slot to man the booth, answer general 4x4 questions and otherwise promote responsible 4x4 sports, public access and tread lightly principals. We'll have some rigs on display and will have lots of photos, a video running and more. Of course, a booth volunteer gets in the show free! more info here: http://www.bigshows.com/1632.html

summit attempt and/or road 41641A (the road to the other towers)?
Today HaleyAnthony led us ( Alby, Kyle, and myself) up a small canyon above Wadsworth. About 2 miles up Hwy 447 we turned off on a dirt road heading towards the hills. The road became a trail and then just a creek-bed at the bottom of the canyon. At the top of the canyon were some old mines and eventually we got onto a decent trail again. Hoping to find a back way out, we followed this trail until we got to a pipe-laying operation and one of the workers said we couldn't go beyond that point. So we had to turn around and look for another way out. We couldn't find one, so we had to go back out the way we came in, back down the creek-bed. The canyon was not too bad, lots of off-camber spots and a few bits of pucker factor. Some good sized rocks along the way but they were passable (mostly) I managed all right on 31's with 2" lift. Lots of mud and some places of deep snow along the way. Pics uploading now.....
Peavine snow run - Feb 06, 2010 (Saturday) Leaving 10am from the Kings Row OHV staging area. Following RareCJ up the mountain. Will attempt the summit and road 41641A (the road less traveled)
Monday morning meeting at 8:30 am at the store with the RV park in Wadsworth. Unless somebody who knows Wadsworth better than me can come up with a better easier place to meet in Wadsworth. Going to run a narrow little canyon I was in a couple of years ago off 447. It looks like White Horse Canyon on the maps. It starts off easy and just gets harder as it gets deeper. Theres lots of old mining sites and should make for an interesting day.
