Northern Nevada 4x4 Club Challenge Rock Crawl
RenoRocks4x4.com at the Sands Regency Casino Hotel
Wednesday, June 17 and Thursday, June 18, 2009
Calling all Hills Angels, Rock Gods, Reno 4x4s, Sierra Stompers, Battle Born Cruisers and other groups who should post and let us know we forgot you! Which club is going to earn bragging rights in the Northern Nevada 4x4 Club Challenge Rock Crawl at Reno Rocks? (If you belong to more than one club, you'll have to decide what club you are going to represent.)
This event is intended for our local wheelers, so to enter, first you have to live around here. (We're still contemplating the exact definition of what 'around here' means.) Second, you'll need to be at least 18 years of age to compete or be a spotter.
Bob and the Surplus City Jeep Parts (www.cj-jeep.com) crew are coming up early to put this crawl on for us. They reallly know what they're doing; they put on two of the most popular crawls on the west coast at their home course in Oroville.
We'll run Modifieds, Super Mods and Pro Mods, just like the big boys, and we'll do it on the same man-made course designed by Lil' Rich Klein that the W.E. Rock pros (www.we-rock.cc) will use over the weekend. You get it first!
The top qualifiers on Wednesday and Thursday night in all three divisions will compete in the finals on Friday night during the opening rounds of the W.E. Rock and Surplus City crawls.
Participants in the Club Challenge Crawl will also get a chance at the infamous Surplus City Jeep Parts Teeter Totter (check out the photo of this monster under the Teeter Totter thread!) and an RTI evaluation.
We'll also have a package for locals who want to take part but aren't sure they want to tackle the W.E. Rock course. It will include on-site parking in the participant lot and two spectator admission tickets for Wednesday and Thursday nights, and also a chance at the Tetter Totter and an RTI evaluation. Also included will be optional entry in the local's 4x4 Show, Show & Shine or Rough & Tough division.
We'll post more details as they become available!

more like 'what' is the challenge is the real question. Different N. NV clubs will shoot it out for bragging rights over the to be designed course. so read it the other way and it makes sense. better join a club mike, LOL.
maybe a team from TRG, R4x4, HA, Stompers, Reno Jeepers, Battle Born Broncos, etc. get it?

MB's got it right; To compete in this event you'll have to be a member of a Northern Nevada 4x4 club. You'll get bragging rights for yourself and your club if you win the Challenge. If you belong to more than one club, which most of us do, you'll have to decide who you want to represent. Qualifiers will be held on two nights, Wednesday, June 17 and Thursday, June 18. The Northern Nevada 4x4 Club Challenge will be held on the man-made W.E. Rock course at the Sands Regency. We are looking at having the winner from each night in each class (Modified, Super Mod, Pro Mod) move on to the finals on Friday night.
Are these going to be strict we-rock rules per class? There is a lot of rigs from all those clubs that to me don't seem to fit well. Should just be a run what you brung competition!
good questions. mike, do u want to join the volunteer list and be a part of the event? we can use all ideas, suggestions and expertise.
field and rules for the local tough truck gig is open for discussion.

The Club Challenge Crawl will be using the rules from the Surplus City Jeep Parts Crawls (www.cj-jeep.com), which are geared more toward recreational crawlers. Bob Frank from Surplus City will be monitoring this Forum and will be happy to answer any questions.
Rules are nice and all, but what I'm pointing out is the fairy obvious difference in the clubs and what kind of vehicles they drive. The Rock Gods all drive R/C buggies, where as Reno4x4 is bolt on short arm lift with 33's and well built Off Road Vehicles
Two classes wouldn't have enough (if any) of the other club, and I'm pretty sure the little guys wouldn't go against the buggies in the same class because of the level of the competitions rig. Thus making a run what you brung class unthesible.
For a club challenge to work and be truely challenging, I would propose a speced vehicle class, with multiple obstacles and multiple drivers/spotters, bringing a true Competition feel to the challenge. One that doesn't leave a doubt in the others mind that they had more money and their rig was better, just that they were a better driver/team.
Think Jeepspeed. Cherokee base model, 33" tires, stock axles with gearing/lockers at the teams discretion. Perhaps a minimal cage. Pull all the glass and run it. This could open a skill class to competition rock crawling similar to the jeepspeed challenge of desert racing. A true budget class.
Any thoughts?

I totally agree, and we would love to have the Club Challenge expand and grow. For this first year, there will only be the W.E. Rock course, which is totally different from a real-rock course. We just didn't want all the local guys standing on the other side of the barriers wondering what it would be like to drive on a W.E. Rock course, so we designed this event to give them the opportunity to experience it for themselves.
Everyone should also remember that Octanefest is out in Fallon the weekend before Reno Rocks, and they are putting a great deal of effort into building a rock crawling course that is more what you are talking about. We don't have that kind of space at our venue, at least for this year.
If the Club Championship idea is popular, we can set up all kinds of disciplines and have events throughout the year with a point series. I think something like that would really take off.

Im down for it just need to know what the rules and safety requirments are so i can be ready for tech inspect and pass

This event is getting confusing = the main post for this deal was a Fri - Sat - Sun event for 200.00 with acomadtions = now it seems from this post that the locals get to run Wed - Thurs - Fri = ??????????????????????????????
Does that mean the locals get Wed - Thurs night in the Hotel????
Also I think some local packages costs might need to be rethought since alot might not need a room. Since we live here of course.
What is the cost to enter that + spectate on the WE Rocks event = that puts us locals in a 4 night stay package. If so desired to stay at the cacino.
I'm all for the Local Club deal = just need the info on whats really happining, yes I know it's all the begining of the planning stages but thought it would be more detailed B4 posting up the event.
Barbra I will call ya this week & get more info.
Why go around? When you can go over!
Sorry it's confusing. There IS alot going on!
The main events on the weekend (Friday night-Sunday afternoon) are:
A W.E. Rock event you can watch, buying daily spectator tickets or a season pass
and
A Surplus City Jeep Parts crawl you can participate in for a package price that includes a hotel room, spectator tickets and more
Also
We wanted to give the locals a shot at running a W.E. Rock course, so we added the Club Challenge on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Price TBA. We'll also have a package for locals on Wednesday and Thursday if they want to come watch the local crawl and play on the teeter totter and RTI.
It's all still coming together, but as soon as we have everything set we'll post the schedule of events and the costs for each.
Barbara
No worries = there for the good times anyway. A little competition is allways good too. I wil be running in the Super Modified class for.

We can all think we know who's rig is going to win and what type of set up is going to work best, but like W.E. Rock competitors have found out, throw in the cones and the crowd and everything changes! No matter what, it's going to be FUN!

im in!!!
im representing the golden valley crawlers!! there are only like 2 people in the club, though.
hmm... maybe ill go with the reno jeepers as my second choice.

i don't necessarily belong to a club im a member of reno 4x4? does that count?
Jeeps are CUTE, Barbie drives one!
As far as I know you don't have to belong to any club @ all.
Why go around? When you can go over!
That's correct, you don't have to be a member of any club, or you can be a club of one.
The club challenge is set up for two things:
First, to bring together all the great rock rigs from all over Northern Nevada, in one place at one time, for everyone to see. I would think a friendly club challenge rivalry, if it develops, would only add to the fun.
Second, the Club Challenge was set up to give locals OF ANY SKILL LEVEL with ANY KIND OF RIG (as long as it meets tech and safety requirements) to come out and HAVE FUN on a man-made W.E. Rock course. We didn't want all the local guys standing on the other side of the barricades wondering what it would be like to run a W.E. Rock course, we wanted to give them the opportunity to try it! There will be obstacles with reasonable but challenging cone placement that ALL classes will be able to negotiate. Just because the website photos show all rock buggies, most flying skyward or rolling, doesn't mean you have to run a buggy or be that extreme. (Unless you want to be featured on the homepage for next year's website or be a hit on YouTube!)
Entry forms for the Club Challenge and other Reno Rocks events will be available in the Downloads section starting March 15.

So this event is separate from the surplus championship? How does the package work? Cost for this or both? Can we compete in both? So if I say compete in the local event what nights do I get the hotel room for so Ican make sure I got a room for the whole event. I got family coming in from out of town so i want to make sure I have a room for the whole time. Ill decide at a later date if I even go to work cause everyone knows wheeling trumps work! Also where is an official rules for the classes and an officail registration form?
thanks and Im looking forward to this event!

Yes, the Club Challenge is separate from the Surplus City Jeep Parts High Sierra Rock Crawling Championship. Yes, you can compete in both.
We just met with Big Rich from W.E. Rock, and he promises a course that will be challenging but class-appropriate. We're hauling in 700 yards of dirt and spraying 300 yards of shotcrete to create the first ever rock crawling course in downtown Reno. It's going to be amazing!
The Club Challenge is Wednesday and Thursday nights. The Surplus City Jeep Parts High Sierra Championship is Friday-Sunday. The three class winners from the Club Challenge get a free entry into the High Sierra Championship.
The participant package for the High Sierra Championship includes a hotel room for Friday and Saturday nights. Rooms are available weeknights for the special Reno Rocks rate of $35.
Entry forms and more details will be posted soon.
