You do know why it's free right? They had the same thing earlier this year (well mid last year now lol)... They ordered way too much stock and it's expired instead of them throwing it out they feed people. In this case I woudn't agree with the "food is food" expression. There are certain foods to just don't eat past the experation date. And yes they are allowed to do this per the FDA because they aren't charging, nor are they holding a gun to your head to eat it. It's purely on your own free will that you're taking the risk that you will have food poisoning of some sort, and chances are you will.
dude come on they just want to get some buisness back into the denny's cause the grand slam is the **** trust me i know these things im big!!!!!meet you there jordon
Choose what you want to believe. I know the truth, it's not just a "rumor"
They have advertising and cheap deals to get more business, not all the free food you want.
You may be big, but i've been in the food service industry for 6 years and have all my sanitation cards and know the rules lol...
Wow, you must golf with the CEO of Denny's or something to get such great insider information.
So let me get to the basis of the truth here as you understand it.
Denny's spent $3,000,000 for a 30 second SuperBowl ad plus a few million more for production of that ad and 4 others, plus websites and spots on a bunch of other channels, plus the cost of extra labor at the restaurants, plus the cost of all the extra good food that goes with all the "Out of Date" food. Conservatively I would guess that they spent close to $10,000,000 to get rid of a few hundred thousand dollars worth of bad food. And I can only guess that the bad food came from a failure of their Supply Chain Management system which tracks every egg in every restaurant somehow let them order way more food than they could ever manage to get rid of any other way.
That is a pure genius business plan, not sure why I didn't see the truth before.
Thanks for the enlightenment.
Seems logical, spend 10 million to avoid throwing away a few hundred thousand and run the risk of hundreds of millions in class action food poisoning lawsuits.

Actually it was Feb of last year, same time......Super Bowl:
They do it because it brings in more business of over the course of the year and raises their brand recognition in the market. Trust me....they wouldn't do it again this year if they lost money last year.
And with all the scrutiny the last couple of years over people getting sick from poor practices in the food production industry, the last thing the FDA would do is grant special permission for a restaurant to potentially taint more than 2 MILLION people with bad food products.
Maybe the CEO is Chinese..... After all they are trying to kill us..... Haha

It's nothing special that the FDA grants it's a law that releases liability of the company because they aren't charging for a service that would otherwise require a "fee". Don't ask me how it works or why they do it but it happens. It's not just at dennys either.
As I said previously believe what you may but I know how they operate. Because again, I worked there...
You're correct that they did it after the superbowl last year, but they also did it April of last year as well.
Well, someone has to use facts in this conversation so I guess I will:
First off, the FDA does not regulate the Restaurant industry (Although their Food Code is used as a guideline for most local agencies):
Nor do they regulate Meat or Poultry:Originally Posted by FDA
And the FSIS referenced above focuses on the plants that produce and distribute products.Originally Posted by FDA
The USDA does not regulate Restaurants either.
The National Association of Restaurants does however provide guidelines for it's members, but it is a private organization and although they work closely with the Gov on restaurant issues, they are not a gov agency.
Restaurants are the domain of local health inspectors for each city and county the restaurants reside in. So in order to get one of these "Golden Ticket" waivers, Denny's would have to contact each of these local agencies for their 1600+ locations. am pretty certain they would not undertake that, and more certain that most of these agencies should they be contacted with a request like that would most likely not approve it.
Washoe county will not let you give away food for free within a commercial establishment without a permit, and in order to get a permit you must follow these guidelines, which focus a lot on safe food handling, storage and ensuring that your food comes from approved facilities.
Additionally, no food other than baby formula is required to have an "Expiration Date"Originally Posted by Washoe County
So technically a restaurant cannot serve "expired" food (well, I guess all meat products can be considered expired in some ways since an animal had to expire for the meat to be produced...but I digress...back on point), and any restaurant which knowingly served spoiled food would open themselves to a lot of legal liability.Originally Posted by Wikipedia
Also, a fairly exhaustive internet search turned up no reference to "Free Grand Slams" in April of last year, only February of 2009 and 2010.
So in conclusion, there is a ton of information that would go against a lot of your claims and a fair amount of data that would make it very unlikely that Denny's would participate in the practices you outlined.
I certainly am not saying you are wrong........but I certainly am of the opinion that you may have a few of your facts off.
