Want To Get Into RC Crawling

Ive been looking into gettin into RC Crawling but dont want to spend too much to start. Im not looking to do comps right now just something fun to play around with in the yard or around Reno and maybe build up a course. New house has a good sized back yard with lots of area for somethin like this. Ive been lookin at a few budget models and ive narrowed it down to 3

    Axial AX10 Scorpion RTC 1/10
Comes with everything but batteries and charger for $235. However, i do hear a lot of issues with this being cheap and weak and very underpowered.
    CKRC Page

    Exceed Mad Crawler RTR 1/10
    CKRC Page
Comes with everything including batteries and charger for $130. and ive been hearing some good things about them. Only issue i see is it looks really top heavy and doesn't look like it has much flex to it. And looks like it has really small tires too.

    Exceed Maxstone RTR 1/10
    Nitro RC Page 1/10 Scale
    Nitro RC Page 1/8 Scale
Comes with everything including batteries and charger for $130. Looks like lots of flex and decent components for the price. They also make a 1/8 scale with 2 motors for $200 and that is a cool feature but i dont know if that would just be too big?

I want something that wont break or break the bank. Like i said im not going to be doing hardcore comps but just want to have a little fun with it. Thanks for the suggestions.

I got the axial scorpion like above, and i love it. It never broke on me and the battery lasts for ever. And so far i never broke any thing. I think the ax-10 would be a good choice and you can get any part for it or mod.

one thing i liked about the maxstone is that it has an extra 20 degrees of flex over the axial. 90 vs 70

ok, so i REALLY like the AX10 Scorpion ARTR but i am clueless about whats needed. if someone could give me links for these requirements i would really appreciate it and maybe figure out price comparisons:

    REQUIRES:
    -Radio: 2-Channel with 1 Servo
-Speed Control: Electronic speed control with On/Off switch
    -Motor: 540/550 size
-Battery: 7.2V 6-cell stick pack with standard connector
-Charger: AC/DC timed or peak for 6-cell battery

Im not used to being so useless about something but i have never experienced RC Crawling but can see myself really getting into it in the future.

i really like the axial and i am willing to spend around $300 if necessary. the cheaper the better but i want quality as well

links on CKRC are best so i can order everything together!

How much its going to cost can vary widely depending on the components.

Transmitters/receivers can be as cheap as $40 and go in excess of $200.

You'll want a stronger steering servo than the one you'd get with the transmitter thats going to be $40-100.

The motor isn't so bad, you can get something good for $50-75.

The speed controller will run $75-125.

A battery pack will be $20-25 (for NiMh, LiPo will be more). But you'll want two so you can wheel while the other battery is charging so make that $50.

It doesn't list it, but I don't think a charger is included, that'll be another $65-120.

Its almost as expensive as owning a real rig.

I bought the original Axial Scorpion and had to buy everything else too (electronics, TX/RX and all). All told I proabably spent around $650 as an initial investment. Of course I didn't stop there.

Given the option today with the PRO, ARTR and RTR I'd still go with the PRO kit. Its easy to assemble and is well built. It only takes a few alterations out of the box to significantly improve its performance.
