If you want to replace the upper just buy onr off the net. A complete upper is drop in and does not require fitting, just sight ajustment.

I would do a little resurch. I think you could order an upper with that kind of barrel for less that it would cost to use your barrel in a different upper. Also you would have 2 good uppers or sell the old one to cover a good portion of the cost on the new one.

You might have a damaged barrel or the sight block. It's held onto the barrel with two tapered pins, which index into the grooves on the barrel.

You can drive those pins with a punch and also remove the roll pin that holds the gas tube to the sight block. After that you can slide the FSB forward and inspect for damage.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. ... The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their consciences.

Yeah, I think you are right. I will pull the FSB off and make shure the barrel is good to go. I guess I could just replace the FSB with a bolt on gas block if it is OK. But I would still need to swap uppers. It still shoots great I just have to crank the rear sight waaay over.

Sometimes those tapered pins can be a pain in the A$$ and require a little heat. Just know if they are stubborn all is not lost. I know that I have had a few that needed more than just a good whack to drive through. here is my current family of AR's I figure 4 more and I am done. Maybe
