I want to use an inexpensive tablet PC for Google Earth

As some of you know I have a netbook with USB GPS and it runs Google Earth and Earthbridge and I use it in my Bronco for trail riding. When I had my Jeep the stand I made for it was ok but this Bronco is way rougher and the stand bangs around too much so I would like to get a tablet to run that software but I just can't afford an iPad or equivilent. The android tablets are much cheaper but don't run Windows. Is there any way to adapt the programs to an android tablet PC???

Google Earth is available on Android. Also a variety of GPS prog's for Android. You might not need your gps receiver, as most tablets have them built in already. As far as Android Apps, it's very easy to get them free of charge. Say for example, I want Camera Advance..Just go on google, type in camera advance ".apk". Make sure you put the ".apk" part in quotes. Then download the apk to your system and run it, and zoom, instant software for free. Also, if you have an android phone, get a program called 'Barnacle'. It will allow you to use your phone as a wifi hotspot so that your tablet can get internet too.

Although I don't know much about tablets, I know where I'd go if I was going to start shopping for one.

Furthermore, these things are worth getting. Especially in the environment you will be using it. I have one on my phone, and the thing is a freaking tank. Just don't buy one off the Otterbox site, as they are horrendously expensive there.

Thanks KQ that was helpful. What I have to find out though is if the tablet can run a GE .kml file...a Google Earth cache.

Since you have already invested on hardware & software, you may just want to upgrade your hard drive on the current Netbook to a Solid State Drive. After that the only issue will be dust, so keep a small can of C02 to clean the Netbook on the fly. It will be faster and your battery life will increase.

tigerdirect sent me a email yesterday with some starting at 99 bucks if your not afraid of refurbished with warante included just use sd for more memory and dont update firmware on the androids right now the new firmware is crashing them all and you have to send it in to have it fixed k but the origanal firmware is fine

Problem is those are Android PCs I had to have Windows so I can use Google Earth, Earthbride(or GooPS) and my USB GPS. Google Earth runs for crap on an Android if you can even get it to download and Earthbridge is a Windows program.
