It would have to depend on snow this year, the first year we did this we had to adjust our route due to we ran into to much snow over the mountain pass's. but I would say spring time early summer.

How many days did it take in 2008? From when you guys left Reno to when you returned?

Just curious as my wife and i only have 1 week of vacation and would like to get paid while doing it

I would be very interested. Especially spring. We had been talking about this trip for a while and linking it with our so cal overland trip would be the icing on the cake. If timing permitted I would be 100 percent in. And it will give me a reason to install the aux fuel tank early! Lol.

I would be up for it but, August at the earliest. We have another little one due in July.

This would be fun, but I have never owned a vehicle I would consider reliable enough for something like this.

we ran out to Ely in early november and logged just over 900 miles, a vast majority of that dirt-- starting near middlegate. It can be done, the only limiting factor is fuel. We carried 6 spare 5 gal cans and used every drop to make it at times--avoiding the need to make long back tracks to get gas. come to a HA meeting and we can go over maps, etc.

I'd be interested. Had a great time at the last one. Let's make sure it is late enough not to worry about snow blockages!

I'd love to do this. Although the Toyota would probably be fine, I'd end up taking the Chevy just for the chance that the Yota gave my problems.

Sounds pretty fun to me. Would probably just take my ford ranger for something like this.

The pics from last trip look incredible!

I am very serious and would LOVE to go on the next run. I'm confident in my rig and equipment but its very nice to know guys who've done it before will be helping to plan.

    Count me in, whenever wherever!

Subscribed. Should have the transfer case fixed by the time one of these trips gets scheduled.

Depending on how difficult this trail might be, I'm thinking of stealing my wife's 4dr JK Sahara since it is roomier for travel. Any idea what the road/trail is like???

We had a stock KJ on both trips.

On our DED Tour 2012 (dirt every day) we logged as noted 900+ miles almost all on dirt and only rarely actually needed low range. Mostly wide open country flying down well packed gravel roads. The entire state is laced with well travelled roads all over the back country. Like the dirt run from Lovelock to Battle Mountain all on dirt. didn't even need 4WD. Only some-what difficult spot was Eagle Pass just west of Hot Creek Canyon. Given the option, my jeep would stay home and i'd take the daily driver truck. I would not fuss too much about vehicle requirements-- its more an issue of carrying lots of spare gas and having time to see the places you want to visit.
Another fun one os Currant to Tonopah on dirt via Troy , Lunar Craters, Revelie, Golden Arrow, etc etc...
The final severe limiting factor is snow. Well into summer many critical passes are simply blocked with too much snow to make the effort worthwhile, absent a very long detour, such as the time we tried McCann Canyon between Belmont and Hot Creek. Huge drifts in June forced a nearly 80 mile go-around. Hence, carry lots of gas and go well into sept/Oct for guaranteed open travel.

I can bring maps/charts to the Hills Angels pizza gig on the 16th to share ideas, etc if anyone is interested.
