I am looking at buying a radar detector and I nedd some outside advice. Does anyone know what kind of radar detectors are worth their money and actually work?

I like the valentine 1's, but they are probably the one of the most noisy ones with some of the false alarms from x and k band. But I know on the way to vegas this new years it probably saved us atleast 2 tickets when my buddy was doin 130mph down the highway....

I have also had a Bel STi detector and it was comparable to the valentine 1 but didn't tell you which direction you were getting the signal from.

Also the bel series 9500's I've also heard good things about but haven't used one my self.

As far as lazer detection goes I would say they are probably worthless on a radar detector cause if they hit you with that your already screwed anyways. I wouldn't waste any money on the cheaper detectors either like the cobras and stuff, i've had some of those and basically you get what you pay for.

see you know what i'm talking about. Yours has the GPS memory feature right? I always wondered how good that worked to eliminate the false alarms

it does, plus if u travel to places like CA or AZ where they have the stationary traps, u can download the cordinates to the device and it will alert u, Plus it will allow you to memorize a known trap or laser u see among the way.....I use Escort since I discovered it while living in EU back in the 90's, had the 7500, than the 8500, just un beaten!!

Every mile per hour over 60 will save one minute over the course of an hour. My Jeep is geared to low to speed but I tend to be passing traffic when I am on the Harley.

It's not so much time saved, as those times you have a laps of concentration, and get a little over the limit! Mine has saved me a bunch of times, mostly in town! I also use the Escort 8500, I need to upgrade

Make sure you get something with laser as CHP is using it alot more lately. I was hit twice with laser yesterday going over the mountain. On the second hit the guy behind me got hit for 75 in a 65. Another not is laser is very short burst nothing like KA which is nthe next most popular. I only seem to see K in older departments
