Wow seems overboard. Wish I had cash like that. My budget will probably be 600 and as Dylan said our team will not hesitate to hit other peoples rigs. So dont be mad bro when that happens I believe the point is as cheap as possible and have fun, not 15k build with sponsors.. But thats just me.

Are we really considering tires as "safety" equipment?

no. safety is cage, seats, harnesses, suit , helmet and neck restraint, fire extinguisher. if it helps your rig go, it's not safety.

And how the fuck are you going to carry a spare motor and tranny with you and if needed install on the trail? Last time I checked Steves Loop was not in Johnson Valley. Tires are not safety equipment as said. And spare shit should be counted as cost of build. So you are way over 2k

    it's a joke guys, but it's supposed to be a thought-provoking one

Seriously, for contact and ramming you need a fuel cell. Add the cell and the cage and it's not cheap already. My safety budget is realistic. If you can bend and weld the cage yourself you will save a lot but it's still a lot of DOM to put into a clunker and a throw-away car.

If you pay for that much, and run pre-fatigued axle and driveshafts and worn out 2-ply tires, you will break and suck as you clog up the track. If there's contact, you will lose the radiator too unless you relocate it.

Unless this is a one-event series and you plan to toss the losers away at a total loss, you will come away with a repair bill higher than your initial purchase. So to run a $500 car and have it finish ready for another event you're looking at close to $10k without the Kings (you can get 2nd place at best). If you think it's way less, you're either kidding yourself or cheating.

Look at my budget again and ask yourself what are you going to skip? besides the Kings and the crate motor. I spent 10 minutes thinking about it for the sake of kidding. If you're serious, I hope you give it more consideration than I did.

I'm still open to sponsorships if anyone wants to win

In response to ^ I used to have a 1978 ford 4x4 with a lost title. We tossed a cage in that truck in high-school and BEAT the piss out of it for 5 years! Jumped it, bent the frame, rocks, water, what ever we could toss at it. The floor boards were bent inward from landing on boulders, and sliding it off...

Yeah, full on contact is going to take out both rigs, but who really is going to slam into you at speed? Maybe some side touching or corners, but I don't think anyone is out to rear end you at 25+ MPH, I don't care what kind of harness you have it will hurt...

I see some bumping in the rock sections, but not at 25 mph and over, unless you want to.

How about this, if you are scared... The inspectors check your rigs safety. If it looks like it would not take a hit, then the rear of the rig gets painted with a 1 x 2 foot bright orange marking for other racers to at least back off. And if you have that mark, you give way if someone is up your ass.

    1) This isn't sanctioned, its a fast trail run
    2) Your DOM quote is way high. That's like 20-25 sticks of DOM.
    3) Garage fab
    4) Kings? Right....watch me rock some bilsteins and some ghetto ass air shock as a bypass.
    5) Look up 24 hours of Lemons, this is basically the same thing...but offroad. If I break down? Oh well, go around.

Yup, this isn't a full on race rig to point is to buy cheap rigs, fab some safety shit and have fun. Not build a full ready to rock race rig.
And in this case DOM isn't needed, we aren't going fast enough to need DOM

what would you think the top speed would be in a roll over? As in the tube that we will be using? Say you lost it in a curve or launch it on a straight stretch?

    Don't take it too seriously.
Pick up a hooptie, put a cage in it, run it into the ground.
This isn't serious rock racing, just fun.
