The only thing I like about it, is I will be able to take my quad or UTV into California with no hassle.

That's true but at least the Cal sticker is a reasonable size almost would rather just get a Cal sticker and say fuck it.

I would be all for it if the $ goes to improving/maintaining trails. But for some reason, I think the $ will end up lining somebody's pocket

Look at social security... Gov can't be trusted to do with funds what they say they will do

Interesting on the sticker size especially since it will be replaced each year.

If you don't want to do the Nevada one try Oregon. I did that for the last 10 years. $10 for two years on each bike and it is accepted in other states. They would not give me one when I tried a couple of weeks ago so you will need to find a dealer to work with you. They only charge .50 cents for the sticker paperwork.

I had a delay in my paperwork (notary) so I am mailing it off tomorrow. I am sending in one with a Nevada title but no vin inspection (the title was not put into my name) and one with an out of state mso.

I updated the first post with costs and information on where to get a vin inspection and for how much. I am going to try the Sherriff’s office for the next ones because I live in the county. I will update with my experience.

Doubtful you could register it in California if you are a Nevada resident

I called Washoe County Sherriff's Office yesterday and asked for a vin inspection. Kevin from WCSO came out about 6:00 and did the vin inspection on the remaining three ATVs. This was much easier than dealing with any of the local dealers.

I called the main number (328-3001) then 8. I told the Officer that answered I need a vin inspection on several ATV's. He took my address and asked a general time I would be home. The Officer that came out was great to deal with. He was a rider and had some interesting stories. He took his time as my bikes were scattered between the garage and trailer and did not make it seem like I was putting him out. I missed him the first night and he showed up again the second night without being prompted.

I have heard stories that Reno Metro and Sparks Metro are not as good with this process. One from a dealer and one from nvohv themselves.

No title needed. It makes things only slightly easier. Get the vin inspection and mail in you registration paperwork (notarized along with a check for $20). Because nevada did not transfer titles in the past this is very common.

I have the original MSO's and one title. I decided against getting nevada titles and will just pass these on to the next person that owns them. You only need a title if the bike was purchased after July 1st 2012. If you sell the bike be sure to use the bill of sale on the nvohv.com website.

As a born bread Nevada resident I'd prefer to see the money stay in Nevada but everyone must do as they please. If you trail allot in Cali and they wont recognize the Nevada paperwork then I could understand the need to default to Cali. I really hope every red cent goes to improving trails and providing increased access..............I'm sure that won't be the case though. Wondering how the State of Nevada can enforce law on Federal BLM. If I trailer the bikes out onto BLM how can the State have a say. Guess I need to do some reading on this law.

Ah that makes more sense. I thought you had gone to their office. I've had many vin checks done with sparks PD they were always courteous and very prompt to come help.

I agree if I have to pay it I would rather pay it here. The sheriff I spoke to questioned who was going to enforce the registration. We don't have rangers here and there are no real designated riding areas.

I only see this process funding itself. Once the administrative costs are taken out there will be only pennies left for our trails. How and where would they determine to spend them? there was a meeting yesterday. I requested the minutes from the meeting to see what they are thinking. I hope to be wrong but this will not help build bathrooms at the moonrocks or open more riding on Peavine. It most likely will create concentrated riding areas and limit our use instead of helping us.

I fully believe this was brought forward by lobbyist that work for the OHV dealers. They tried to keep sales in NV with the tax sticker in 2007 and it did not help so they forced the registration through. Law enforcement and DMV did not want this process. Sadly if the local dealers provided customer service I would spend my money here but instead I will go out of the state for a better price and better service.

This is good to hear. It sucks they get nothing from the process but I am glad they just get it done.

I checked on the subcommity minutes and here is the response I got back. It sounds promising. Just like everything else if we don't get involved we can't complain when it is gone.

"Morning Dan, mins are available via our web sit. The mins from the Budget sub committee held 2-14, will not be much help. If your interested we will be having a meeting of the full commission Feb 21. At that meeting we will be going over the sub committes recommentions. The fact is we have not yet received any grant request. We will be discussing how that process will work at the Feb 21 meeting. The commission will most likely start looking at grant requests April or May, and be able to start funding grants in July."

The meeting agenda for the 21st.

Just and update it took about 2 weeks to get my stickers. I submitted the other three and got them in about the same amount of time. No hassels. The sticker is huge as pointed out before. My guess is I will put it on the underside of the rear fender. (On the left of course)

I have a friend who called WCSO yesterday and asked for a vin inspection. They said they do not provide that service anymore and pointed him to the DMV. It was for a car and not an ATV but interesting.
