Dog Valley Project - June 14th

Volunteers Needed – Saturday June 14th

Time once again for the 4x4 community to do even more good. This time, it’s the Dog Valley Meadow Barricade Project.

Humboldt Toiyabe National Forest, Hills Angels, Nevada 4 Wheel Drive Association, Reno 4x4.com and many others are working together to install 1500 feet of barricade along the sensitive areas on the Dog Valley meadow forest service road. This is similar to the Dutch Louie Flat, Big Meadow, Dog Valley-Summit One barricades.

NV Energy has donated the power poles needed as well as many of the special tools, the forest service has paid for delivery and all the other materials needed. N4WDA has chipped in for food (still seeking more donations) and Hills Angels will be doing the cooking and site coordination.

PLEASE POST UP on Reno4x4.com if you are coming so we have some idea of crew sizes and food requirements.

From Verdi take Bridge Street to Dog Valley Grade, stay right at the summit and go down the hill into Dog Valley. At the bottom of the grade take the first right and go about a quarter of a mile.

Come on out and make a difference!

So this project is building a barricade along the dirt road that runs through the meadow, and along its perimeter?

Not the whole perimeter, just the edge of the main road where people can't seem to stay on the road instead of mud bogging the meadow.

Yeah I'd be willing to help. Keeping that place from being abused will help keep it open.

I"ll know for sure when we get a little closer, but I would love to help out. One of my favorite places to camp/ explore.

    Pending a babysitter, I'm in.

Question though, wouldn't anybody douchy enough to rip up the meadow just drive over the power pole to get at the mud?

Chris, they will be elevated with across timber, pinned and cabled in place.

Efstop: wonder if we can cook up a lift bar on front bumper and use winch to elevate?

I am open to suggestion on lifting but the power company is supplying a half dozen Peevee's (log tools) for the job.

As to the crossing question, douches are douches but they can't claim they didn't know. Besides this was the Forest Services idea, it gives reasonable warning, looks more pleasing than the FENCE they originally wanted and it leave wildlife free to roam.

90% sure I'll be there. My Boy Scout troop camped DV countless times growing up, so I'm quite fond of this area.

I would have loved to have helped with this, but sadly I will be on an airplane all day Saturday.

I still think I can make it.

Met a bunch of N4WDA members a couple weeks ago in Eldo canyon, they did a great job on cleaning it up.

One day only, 9am till it's done. FS, Hills Angels. Reno 4x4 and I hear several other clubs will be there. Some folks intend to stay over the night before and/or after but the work day is Saturday the 14th.
