    Richardson lake trail.

El Dorado County has set tentative dates for trail maintenance for volunteers. For those who that have not been up there it's very nice and unfortunately Closed! This is an opportunity to reopen the trail if the work can be done. The Tahoe clubs do soo much for the trails up there they are swamped. This trail is closer than you think. I drove from Carson then toured it and back 6 hrs. It's part of the rubicon trail system. Totally doable in a stock rig, wonderful camping and it's every part as beautiful as the "Con". The volunteer work is driving in some fill gravel. This could be done with a 4x4 pickup and jeeps with trailers. Shovel work good ole shovel work. There is also an old logging landing that needs to be covered with slash( old limbs and logs) to rehabilitate it so it looks like forest floor and stops erosion. Plenty for the whole family to do. July 12-13 and august 9-10. July is out for me but August is good. If you have been out and volunteering thank you. If you haven't had the chance get out there make a difference we all would appreciate it if you can.

July will not work for me, but the August dates should work for me. I will bring out the truck for this.

I just got off the phone with the Eldorado national Forest and the July dates are a go! Figure on showing up at the Tahoma Rubicon staging area around 9am with the briefing to start at 9:30am. It's about an hour and a half drive from Reno.

We're looking to move about 15+ yards of gravel on to the trail. The Rubicon Trail Foundation (RTF) has donated the use of their six hydraulic dump Jeep trailers. I have one of them at Tahoe but we'll have to figure out how to get the others from over the hill. I'm looking to have 10-12 trailers. The FS is looking in to a front loader. Anyone here have access to a small front loader, like a Kabota or Bobcat?

It would be great to feed the volunteers at the end of the day. Any volunteers?

Sunday will be a shorter day. Camping is available around Miller Lake and at the more formal forest service campgrounds near Lake Tahoe. Remember, camping is not allowed at the staging area.

Make either day or both days, your choice.

I'll send out more details as they become available.

The July date is a go and since I can't be there I need a leader to step up for this one. As far as getting there here ya go. Head to Tahoe on the east side on hwy 89 is Tahoma. There is signage on the hwy directing to the entrance to miller lake and the Rubicon trailhead. Follow those signs up a paved single track to the staging area. There you will find a map of the rubicon trail system. Richardson lake trail is clearly marked. The trail entrance is just past miller lake on the left hand side. I'm hoping that the Eldorado National Forest service has signage up.

Here is a link to my website. I just posted a new map showing the nine meadow spots along the Richardson Lake Trail (14N39) as well as where it turns off the Rubicon just west of Miller Lake. That's the one with the huge turnout area and boat launch ramp.

The latest FS plan is to work only meadows 14N39-1 and 14N39-5 the first weekend. Just a lot of gravel moving.

The second weekend, August 8 & 9, will focus on meadow 14N39-7 where we need to build a rolling dip with road base and cover it with gravel as well as placing "Tread Blocks" on either side of the creek crossing.

FYI, there will be a tour of the trail on July 16th to look for where to place the reroute around 14N39-9. Email me if you can drive and offer an open seat or two.

So, do we have a quorum for July 12 & 13? Doug, did you find a cook? I could bring my grill and prepare BBQ chicken with Costco potato salad on Saturday if needed.

This work weekend is a go, regardless of how many people sign up.

Nobody has stepped up to cook and I can't give you a count as sign-ups are slow and some may be contacting Dr Smash and some contacting me. We'll get a number out maybe Wed of next week.

The FS has confirmed they will be providing a front loader for 12/13. That along with the RTF dump trailers means no sore backs, loading trailers. The Tahoe side folks will be bringing trailers, I think I have three confirmed.

Let us know if you can make either day or both.

    Thanks!

So far we have Scoobymike. Thanks for your support. The forest service is thinking 30 + volunteers for the 12/13. Short notice was given for volunteers. I am trying to change my family plans ( daughter getting married) so that I can be around on the 13th.

I plan to camp Saturday night so I can cook the chicken for dinner Saturday and hot dogs & Italian sausage for lunch Sunday. I'll hit Costco Friday so an estimated count Wednesday would be perfect. I'll pick up a few flats of water as well.

Do we need to bring any tools?

I think we have 7-10 people for Sat the 12th, along with three trailers.

We need more people and trailers.

I'll be making phone calls tonight to drum up support.

Please post this effort of other forums if you can.

    Thanks,

Rod, of the Lake Tahoe Hi-Lo's, is willing to haul two RTF trailers at once if we can get them over the hill for Saturday.

Anyone able to bring over a trailer and leave it at Steve's house by the concrete before Saturday?

I'm committed to being there both Sat & Sun pulling my own trailer. I'll bring the RTF-06 trailer for R290 to haul. Not sure if he's attending both days.

Volunteers are still low. We need people to spread gravel once dumped and to gather then spread forest debris in one area.

There is more discussion on this Pirate thread: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/rubic...l#post26640458

Let's get this done to reopen the trail.
