    Dog Valley Snow

Anybody been out there? What's the coverage like?

I got a tree permit and was planning on going out Saturday afternoon. Don't have a wheeling rig, just my Subaru Crosstrek with some Geolandar ATS tires. Car's been amazing so far, but I don't want to do anything stupid. Just like to know beforehand.

I guess I'll update in case anyone is wondering...

Went out Saturday around 2pm. Snow conditions weren't bad at all. A bit icy. LOTS of idiots out there. 2 people stuck on the left side going up before we even got to the little parking area at the top. Didn't even bother going down into the valley due to reports of people getting stuck. The stucks were mostly situations where 2 way traffic caused a driver to put a wheel or 2 off the road and into the ditch. I hiked a bit and plucked a little tree. Drug it back to the car and some lady was freaking out and asked my wife to use her phone (as we were apparently the only ones with service)... to call AAA. I strapped down the Christmas bush while shaking my head in disbelief. The Ranger was friendly on the way out, but I could tell he was having a long day.

    TL;DR: Too many people.

Agreed to many idiots out there...

I went out yesterday and came in on the border town side. It was clogged at the first parking area at the top. People weren't watching their crotch fruit who were sledding on the main road. It was really icy and I inched my way down the first hill and found a spur road I took it about a half mile in and the kids found a tree they liked. Picked it up and headed back out. To many two wheel drive cars that shouldn't have been there. On the way out a backhoe was headed that way I assume to pull someone out.

Next year I think I'll go during the week to avoid the people that I kept me thinking about the donner party

Dog Valley at Christmas time is a good place to practice recovery techniques. Lots of people don't know what they are doing there and AAA or any other tow co. either won't respond or will charge big bucks to go in there. You can make some extra X-mas cash that way !

I was up there the Sunday after Thanksgiving and there were just as many stupid people. We couldn't get up the Verdi side because of how many people were stuck on the ice and were forced to go around to the border town side. Thankfully that side wasn't icy yet, but there were still a few people that slid into the ditch on the side of the road.

Buzzed thru from bordertown to crystal mine (numerous clueless idiots in far over head) then across to mitchell canyon and up to peavine peak and down the service road.

From the lateral short cut. Snow no issue at all. Fun trip.

Went thru there several years ago and found about 10 families with small children stuck at the base of Summit 1 who couldn't get up with their 2wd street tires. They all had to go back via Bordertown.

    People still haven't learned.
Took about 30-45 mins to get back up the hill because someone kept sliding into the ditch. No idea how the Subaru managed to get himself there.

The jeep is actually in a pretty tough spot. Owners was nowhere to be seen but it's barely hanging onto the edge

Man winter wheeling is the best around here. Dog Valley never fails to dissapoint when it comes to stuck stockers.

I will be part of that shit show. Going in on the 4th with the bug, and a few other VW enthusiasts. Also a couple 4wd trucks for good measure.

It's like sitting and watching at the boat launch in the summer!
