Gary Johnson rally in Reno on Friday

Don't like Hillary? Not sold on Trump? Despite what some people say there is a legitimate third option this year. The two chosen candidates for the main parties both have negative approval ratings and only 9% of the country actually chose either of them in the primaries. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate for president, is coming to Reno this Friday. It starts at 6:30 at the Joe Crowley Student Union at UNR. More info here:

    http://mynews4.com/news/politics/lib...-rally-in-reno

This dude is not a tinfoil hat type of guy, he was the Republican governor of New Mexico and me makes a lot of sense. Do I agree with him on ever issue? Nope, but there are still three months until the election. If you really want to show DC that you are fed up, make your vote count and back Johnson.

I dunno. I am not asking for votes, just for people to take some time and go listen to what the man has to say. There is plenty of time to decide who you are going to vote for.

Get ready for the angry mob of brainless two party voters, they should be here any minute now to babble on about "not voting trump is a vote for Hillary."
Im not saying I'm a fan of everything Gary Johnson supports, but I can get behind 75% of it and thats about quadruple of what Trump supports I could stand behind

Maybe we can sway Gary around to an endorsenent. He and Jill have feverent devotees but much like the Berners feeling left out, there are only three true choices 11/4: dt, hrc or stay home. Libitarians, independents, et al., good hearted us all, may and should be forced to choose. Beware diluting the vote with principal over our long term best interests.

Mark, your incoherent ranting seems to be supporting staying home on Election Day rather than voting for a 3rd party candidate. It's hard for me to wrap my mind around such an ignorant statement

I heard about this earlier. Seems like someone was saying it was 2-3 hours long. Any info on what time he will actually speak vs political hype and getting the crowd excited to hear him? The Joe is a big area so I'm wondering if he will just be out front. I'm 50-50 on going and might just base it on how I feel about finding parking with my truck in that tiny parking garage. It isn't always fun parking a crew cab 3/4 ton.

Think there's a stronger argument to be made that voting your principles is in the long term best interest. If you don't care what the person you are voting for stands for, what's the point? Perhaps you should read Washington and his thoughts on the pitfalls of the 2 party system. Your arguement sounds like you're more about the "team" vs what the "team" stands for.

Having hrc in office really scares me. That, along with USSC appointments may spell disaster for, inter alia, our future gun rights.

I wanted to go to this but have an already scheduled camping trip. I'm still here to say that a third party has no realistic shot until there is a base of support at the local and state level political positions, but third parties need grassroot support to get that start. We need these candidates to start getting enough supporters that the bias media can't ignore them anymore (and then just be ready for vilification of the third party while they rally to protect the establishment).

I don't like either of the two major candidates but I have to ask "What is the end game if I vote Gary"?

This is not a troll. I am looking for legitimate answers.

I watched the town hall on CNN last night and I was underwhelmed. I like a Libertarian stance but he came across very weak. I want to like him because Trump and Clinton are two sides of the same coin as far as I can tell.

Hopefully we can all agree that Gary does not have a Legitimate chance. He even stated he expects to get 11 million votes because of the disdain for the big two. That would put him in third place or fourth place depending on what the green party gets from upset Bernie supporters.

I agree with John that this movement needs to start at a local level if it will ever gain any traction. Not directly with the president.

If you are sending a message to Washington do you think the winner will hear it or care? Will the change be limit third parties even more like after Perot? I am guessing the movement will be met with the same methods by the media as the Tea Party to discredit it. It won't change this election or the next. It will take a few cycles to get the support we need to make a change.

If you are just following your heart but understand he has no chance you will still need to wrestle with the fact that there are still going to be one of two evils in the Whitehouse after the election. Which one is the lesser?

If I vote for Gary what is the end game besides a high five to myself when Trump or Clinton wins?

Good points Dan, thanks for watching the town hall. That was an opportunity to win over voters, and he didn't that is on him.

I think that the problem with making changes on a local level is that most of the Rs and Ds locally are probably pretty good people. I can't say the same for Clinton and Trump.

I think people have been brainwashed into voting for the "lesser of two evils", at least since Bush vs Kerry. And after three election cycles nothing has changed. So I am willing to try a new approach to send a message to Washington.

Even though Perot and Nader did not win, they definitely had an affect on the platforms of the Republican and Democratic parties after the election.

There are still three months until the general election. Three months before the primaries no one though Bernie or Trump would do as good as they did. In 2008 no one though Obama would be the Democratic nominee three months before the primaries. Clinton was the presumed nominee back then. There is still plenty of time for Gary Johnson to make a difference in this election.

The real effect of Perot and Nader was not so much on the platform (since the planks get changed like underwear) but that Perot drew votes from GHWB and allowed WJC to get into the White House and Nader drew from Gore, enabling the younger Bush to win.

Unfortunately, that is the reality of today's political arena.

As to Trump, I don't think he will be as harmful to folks rights as HRC (who, in my view is evil to the core), but also proving he can't deal with the pressure of the Presidency.

A lot can happen between now and election day, and it will. Don't be surprised to see another candidate with an R associated with their name surface.

    Just read this: http://www.latimes.com/opinion/edito...nap-story.html

MG: Can I ask if you believe that federal public lands should be returned to control of the states?
GJ: You know, I don’t go along with the Forest Service lands. I don’t go along with wilderness lands returned to the state. But the BLM [Bureau of Land Management], that’s a whole other topic.
I don’t want to say that you don’t know this, but you realize that in New Mexico, certainly Utah, it’s laid out in checkerboard. It’s laid out in red squares and black squares. And I’m talking about BLM land…. So there’s no understanding at all of what BLM lands represent. What you do see at times is Ted Turner. Ted Turner has 1 million acres in New Mexico. Well 500,000 acres are private land and 500,000 are leased land from the BLM. Well it’s checkerboard. It’s geometric red, you look at the horizon in New Mexico and you are looking at red squares and black squares. So to give control of those BLM lands to the state and sell that land to the private landowners, and actually put that on private property tax rolls, that makes a lot of sense.
And when we think of public lands, I think people think of these riparian wonderful areas when the reality is anything but.

Well coffee is better than Clinton.

Free coffee at the tire change places. I stop there on my way to work and fill up my paper Starbucks cup.

I promised I wouldn't vote for the lesser of two evils ever again. I'll admit I voted for McCain based on that. 8 years taught me I can survive regardless. I'm a anybody but HRC and will vote my conscience. I'm hoping I can find something that will make me at ease with my self when I vote trump between now and then.

    I won't bash someone's choice that's theirs.
