    Angry Wrenching Hand...

Hi everyone! I'm pretty new here and to Reno itself, and I don't know if this is even in the right place to ask, but here goes.

I have my 02' WJ with a 4.7L stuck in my garage. Why? The stupid lower thermostat bilt snapped off when I was doing normal Maint to the Jeep. These are known to break, but I thought I was special. I have hydro cooling a large ARB Bumper/Winch on the front so it's a very very big job to take all that out myself just to get clearance to try to easy out the bolt. The good news though is I can fit a nut on the end of it, but I don't have a welder to weld it on. Is there anyone on here that has a welder they can come help me out with for like 20 min? I really need to get this big old girl on the road again, time to wheel!! My fiance is not too happy about it.

Yes I have tried Vice grips and there's not quite enough to get on it and get it out. I've been soaking it in PB Blaster for a week or so too to help free it up. This is kinda my last option. I am probably going to have to sell some firearms to buy a welder if this doesn't pan out.

Thank you for reading, and any suggestions. Feel free to move if there is a better place for this.

You can always return a welder to Harbor Freight if you don't like it. On the other hand, it's amazing how much you can get accomplish by doing a little each night. You could take the winch off one night and take the bumper off the next night. Not that much to disassembly. Another thing is, we love guns so give us first pick if it goes that direction ! lol

Ill keep that in mind. I wish It was that easy. The winch is integrated into the bumper. You can't take them off separately. If it was that easy I'd have it done already.

I did think about that harbor freight trick. But if I'm going to get one I would rather get rid of a toy and get a useful one that can do other future work I need to do.

Do you have enough room for a small pipe wrench? I've had better luck with them than vice grips for certain broken bolts. I'd be two weeks before I could help with my tiny welder as its in a moving container inaccessible.

Hopefully you can find someone to weld a nut on. Hitting that corner with a propane torch after you weld the nut on may also help to turn it out.

I thought about that too. And I can not get a drill back there. Or get it centered on that bold blind from behind. If I mess that up it would be a whole new timing cover in my future. Trying to avoid that.

I may have to do a temp fix to make it moveable and get to a welder. I can c-clamp it on for a short term fix. It only needs 8lbs to secure it. But I'd much rather do it the right way the first time.

Drilling. Lol. Autocorrect. Hate it. There must be an easy way... But there is always the long way, although undesirable. Google for a fix?

No I liked the drinking idea better!!

The only fixes I've seen are things I've tried. Short of taking the radiator out and using an easy out; which I can not do myself due to the arb and winch weight.

It's just an annoying location to have a bolt break. Honestly it would be an easy fix if I had the right tool. (welder) I hope it doesn't sheer off again in there with a welded nut. Then it's a timing cover replacement.

And on top of this someone just hit my daily driver in the cash and carry parking lot.

I might be willing to let you borrow my little 110v Lincoln depending on your willingness to leave something of equal value as collateral to make sure I get it back. I'd offer to do it but I just have too much going on currently. Offer is there if you need it man.

My welding skills have declined over the years. I'm going to go get a auto darkening mask today and spend some time on it. Thank you again. Even if my skills don't let it work.

Take your time man. Should be a new spool of wire in there, practice off the truck. Innershield so mind the splatter on the pulleys and the radiator.

Finally got it back together and running!!

After welding a nut on with heat and soaking in PB blaster for a week it broke off two more times. But third nut was a charm!!

Thank you so much for the loaner welder Mr_scott.
