We’d love for you to join us for some great 4 Wheeling and fun and food at Tahoe Donner here in Truckee, CA. On Saturday, September 16th, the Tahoe Donner 4 Wheel Drive Club will hold its 3rd annual Sierra 4x4 Trails and Ales. The single day event will begin with an exciting and challenging trail run of the Bear Valley OHV located about 10 miles north of Truckee.

Following the trail run, all participants are invited to join us at Northwood’s Clubhouse at Tahoe Donner for some fun activities. The Clubhouse has Bocce Ball, Horseshoes, Volley Ball and Corn Hole and we will have some music and a cash bar. The cash bar will include authentic handcrafted ales and beer from Cool Beerwerks, a micro-brewery owned and operated by two of our Club members. Then at 5:30PM we will have a delicious BBQ buffet under the tent behind the Northwood's Clubhouse.

    So here are the details:

Who: Any 4x4 that has good ground clearance and is not a wide model vehicle like a pick-up truck. Several sections of the trail are very narrow and there are some challenging hill climbs and rocks to get over. However, all the major obstacles have bypasses. Stock Jeeps can and have done this trail with no problems. Each trail run will be led by an experienced Club Member and we will have spotters and winches at the more challenging obstacles.

When: September 16th, trail runs begin at 10AM and 10:30AM. You will receive details on how to get to the Bear Valley OHV after you register.

    Food: The BBQ buffet includes:
    • Caesar Salad
    • BBQ Pork Ribs
    • Bone-in Chicken Breasts
    • Texas Baked Beans
    • Veggie Pasta Salad

Cost: The cost for the trail run and buffet dinner is $40 per person for adults and $20 per person for children 12 and under.

How to Register: Visit our web site at td4wheelers.org to register for the event. You will be able to pay for the event using your credit card and wrist bands will be given to participants as they enter the Bear Valley trail as proof of payment. Please register by September 3rd so we can plan appropriately for food and drinks.

We hope to see you on September16th!!!!

Definite...maybe. The Diablo folks used to host Run-A-Muck on the BVL but the Feds made the commercial permitting process, mandatory insurance, etc so cost prohibitive that 27 annual year event crashed. Sad. Glad they can revive a fun event.

Easy way to find out is just go up there and try. Less than hour from reno via dog valley road thru sardine valley, easy up from Loyalton or 89 north from truckee to cottonwood summit then east to the camp ground which is the start/end of the trail. there are many entrances/exits all along the loop.

there are a couple narrow spots on the BVL that can be avoided. Between the camp ground and Winch Hill 1 are some very tight turns thru the trees. This is avoided by back tracking to lemon canyon to WH 1. The other section is on the Cottonwood Hillclimb.(or descent, depending if you run clock wise or reverse). Dense brush growth make it tight and narrow, some log hopping, etc.

85% of the trail is full size friendly IMO.

The trail free to run anytime and the BV camp ground is VERY nice and free. New potty and potable water. All in the tall pines.

Winch Hill 2 is a bit more technical and the famous Ball Pien hill climb is either insane difficult or one of two bypasses make it easy.

Anyone have a map or GPS track or pins of this trail they care to share. Been out in the area but never seen anything resembling a difficult trail, just the unmaintained roads all done in 2wd. Just to clarify, I've gone from Verdi to stampede, up to the Sardine Peak, and then down to the Bear Valley campground and then out to 89.
Sounds like a fun day trip and chill after, but I'm a bit curious of the trail.

The loop is not easy find. Formal trail head right across from camp site. Will look and share.

Paul and I ran the bug up to there Saturday. If you come from Truckee, 95 N past little Trukee summit, make a right on cottonwood lane. This dirt path will be marked for the bear valley camp. Cottonwood intersects with Lemon Canyon about 5 miles up, turn right . This corner will have the entrance to the campground on the left. Don't go into the campground, instead follow the non-DG covered road (Lemmon Canyon) about 200 ft and on the right you will see the OHV area. We didn't traverse much of the OHV site but it looks very narrow with bushes and trees. Full size trucks will get pin striping.

(For a longer dirt adventure) We didn't initially come from 95. CHP frowns on our bias ply non DOT tires, no turn signals and lack of license plates. We started in Verdi on Henness pass rd, pass sardine valley then make the left at the old corral. This is the intersection of Henness pass and Smithneck rd. a couple miles up stay right on Lemmon canyon. Don't turn on Sardine point, stay left. This will put you at Bear valley and the OHV park. Its also a nice way home to avoid the traffic on 95!

This vid starts at the intersection of cottonwood and lemon canyon. You can see the campground entrance almost immediately. We didn't play in the ohv area due to thunderstorms and low fuel...

We were up there this weekend. After you head up lemon canyon, off henness pass and past the sardine LO turn, and before the cattle guard, one may enter the loop and this takes u right to ball pien and winch hill 2. Avoids all the lower tight brush, etc

If rubicon is a 10, bvl is a 4-5. Mostly forest roads with 3 hill climbs each with go arounds
