    Brake lights not working

Trying to fix the brake lights on a 2005 expedition my family has. All lights work except for brake lights (including 3rd brake light). Fuses are good, and tested the brake switch with a test light and that seems to be working fine. Used the test light to see if any current was getting to the rear lights but nothing, not even on the factory trailer wiring. Short of tearing the dash apart to trace the wires, anyone have any suggestions? Electrical isn't really my thing so I figured I'd ask.

Just curious how did you verify the brake switch was working? and does it have separate turn signals or do they work with the brake lights too?

I used a test light. One wire constantly on, the other turned on when the pedal was pushed in. And the same bulb is the brake light and turn signal so they work together.

Rear turn signals are working correct? If so , it's probably the turn signal switch it self.
The brake signal is sent from the brake light switch to the turn signal switch were it is split and on to the rear lights. Ether the wire between the two switch's or the turn signal switch. There is a connector near the bottom of the steering column, check it out, separate and see if you have the brake signal there.

Rear turn signals do work. And that makes sense with my line of thought on it. The turn signal switch would have to regulate the brake lights on whatever side the turn signal is active on since they share the same bulb right?

Correct, unless Ford did something really different, that's the it was done for many years except for the imports that used seperate bulbs for brake and turn sig.

Well it turned out to be the brake switch. Not sure why but it's working now with a new one.
