    Pole creek/cabin creek trail

I would like to run pole creek again before it closes for the season. This is an easy run for short wheelbase 4x4 vehicles. There are some tight switchbacks which would be difficult for long vehicles.

The trail starts on CA89 about 6 miles up from McDonalds in Truckee. It loops back to 89 via Cabin creek trail. Run time is about 3 hours if we take short breaks.

The views are spectacular and since the trail is only open 3 months out of the year it's pristine.

Tentative scheduling for Sunday Oct 7. We could do it on Saturday Oct 6 if preferred. Meeting at McDonalds in truckee at 10am. Leaving at 10:15.

Post up if you want to go but need a different day. We have till the snow flies or till Nov 1.

I would rate this trail a 1 or 2. There are 2 exceptionally tight turns, up hill, with small rocks. The first one is along a ridge line so it makes backing up exciting. Smallwilly's chevy colorado made it but had to be spotted on the ridge turn. Skid plates recommended, should not need a locker. Conditions change, plan ahead.

YORK compressor? NAPA 6206-2RSJ. I have had to do this. Pretty straight forward. There is a pretty good write up on line. I have the 5/8 bolt of you need it.

Doug, it was your page that introduced me to this trail. THANKYOU! I joined the Tahoe donner club last year so I could help maintain it. We rolled with USFS ranger Jeff Wiley on July 31. Trimming trees, and pounding in carsonite markers, love it!

That looks like a fun run and that Sunday 10/7 works for me too. My rig is a stock JKU Rubicon. Will that be a problem?

Should be fine. We had some stock trucks on the maintenance run. This was the lunch stop on the ridge.

Confirming for this coming Sunday, Oct 7, 10am at the McDonalds in Truckee, CA. We're leaving at 10:15. With the upcoming rain it should keep the dust down.

Depends on the amount of rain. I'll take dust over mud. Dust doesn't suck you in.

Please put down your keyboards.. Wx looks good for Sunday., Trail conditions unknown. We will of course tread lightly. Stockers need recovery points. Look for the pirate flag at Mcdonalds. If your late then meet up at the trailhead 6..2 (approx) miles from Mcdonalds on CA89. 146.565 or ch20 FRS, or ch 16 on CB.

any volunteers to run Tail gun?

My brother and I will definitely tag along too. We would be happy to tailgun if you need someone. Might do the short hike up to Tinkers Knob too. We have run the trail a couple times before so know the route well. Last time was only a month ago. There was a road grader working on the trail between the switchbacks and Cabin Creek Road, so that section is now very mild.

The meadows at the head of Deep Creek is a cool place to stop also.
