    Christmas Tree Cutting

Going with the family to cut a permit Christmas tree this weekend. Any advise on where to go? I heard Dog Valley is a pretty good area—anyone know what the road conditions are there now?

When are you going? I might be interested in a Sunday run. Never cut a tree out there but it would be fun to pull some tree hunters out!

Probably Dog Valley. Headed up this morning, Saturday. I had to squeeze it in between my kids avtivities so unfortunatly Sunday would not work. I’ll report back regarding to conditions, hopefully not too much snow.

How was it? Or did you make it back yet?

We went last weekend and it was a shit show. There was allot of people who had no business being there with the vehicles they had. People had no common sense and we're following to close. We saw people who weren't coming out of there till 6:30/7:00pm.

Conditions last weekend were not ideal. There was about 4 inches last weekend which got packed down and with all the people who were inexperienced/unprepared made it a skating rink on the hills. I would imagine there was another 6 inches from Wednesday and not much has melted. We went in from the border town side.

I'm done with dog valley road and will be scouting new areas over the next year. Just to many people over the weekends and add snow it becomes a little to dangerous.

Conditions were good for the snow we received. The forest service roads were packed snow except a few side roads off of Dog Valley which were untracked. The snow was melting fast as we were leaving. Very doable for capable stock 4x4s with if you stay off the side roads. The lot at the top of the pass above the valley was full but I did not see that many people in Dog Valley. Overall a good day—we got our tree.

I was up there last weekend too. It was definitely a mess until you got further up the mountain!
