    Dog valley road

Well I have not been active on reno 4x4 for a long time....(sold Jeep a few years ago) anyway, my friend called me yesterday to ask for help with his duramax. He went up dvr not knowing the conditions and during the process of turning around he discovered he had some how got a hole in the oil filter.

We went up in two other trucks both with street tires and where not able to get either trucks close unough to pul his truck the rest of the way around to go back down hill.

Parts are with truck to fix oil filter.

I’m unable to provide transportation up to his truck that is likely to make it back out.

If there is any one with good tires/locker/winch that is looking for intertainment today help would be much appreciated.

His name is Cody and cell is (209)450-5922

I will check this thread I couple of times today but I will not be available to provide instant answers.

He's out and back to pavement. Unfortunately, there's some carnage. Front passenger drive shaft snapped, front driver CV joint pulled out of the diff and the diff rotated up in the back causing the front driveshaft to hit things. And the rear bumper is tweaked.

was it a lifted truck or something? I've never seen an axle come out in one of these. Plenty of broken tie rods but never a cv axle

It looked stock to me. He was about a mile and a half up Dog Valley rd from Verdi. The back end stuck in a ditch from trying to get turned around. Some snowshoers were parked in the middle of the road blocking it when he got stuck is what he said.

We were out there this afternoon for recovery over the summit toward Stampede, saw the mess where the chevy got stuck, and the truck left out there at the bottom of the hill. Looked messed up pretty bad, CVs hanging under the front and the rear bumper almost ripped off due to non-factory mounting and no receiver hitch. Went as far as we could up on Henness pass rd but that was only a couple hundred yards past the fork at the top. There was a stuck Tacoma there at the fork that we gave a pull to get out, then went back down to attempt recovery from the Boca/Stampede side. Road became fresh snow with no tracks aside from snow mobile tracks past the Boyington Mill CG. Aired down to 10psi and managed to slowly keep going all the way to the truck we were recovering, a stock Tacoma that's been stuck out there in the middle of Henness Pass Rd by the Verdi Peak OHV staging. Truck was there almost a week aparently, and had collected another foot and a half of snow on it. Gave it a tug and it came right out. The Drive back out was even sketchier than the way in, had it snowing on us a bit on the way up but the snow was all now melting and getting slushy in the tracks I had previously packed, but not slushy enough to let the tires dig to pavement. Overall the whole thing took 5 hrs and almost a full tank of gas. Don't think the guy is going back out unprepared or by himself again.

Happy to help out. What model, or thickness and length is that Bubba strap? Since I can't find any of my straps or recovery equipment, I need to get new ones. That Bubba strap will probably be the first.

How was the condition of Stampede Meadows Rd before you got to Boyington Mill. I was thinking about camping at Boca this weekend.

Around Boca there was probably a foot of snow, but most of the side accesses had had some sort of travel down them. The main paved road was 2 track all the way down to the pavement up until the upper end of Boca, then turned into snowy ruts up to Boyington Mill. Granted this last storm probably just dropped a good bit more snow on the area out there.

Thanks Eric, you're the man. Did you notice if that white and brown 5th wheel camp trailer was still parked at the second Boca Rest Campground. They were living up there and it was pretty creepy. Sorry to hijack the thread. I figured it's resolved so let's get some trail/ road/ campground info out there!

Yes, I do believe I recall an old somewhat creepy looking 5th wheel camper parked out there by Boca. There was no sign of anyone around it though, maybe they got chased out by the snow and left it there abandoned.
