Keep it out of the sun and it will last years.

My wife makes purses, bags, wallets and belts out of bicycle tubes. At first we were worried they'd break down, but she has several items that are several years old now and are still fine. We have a lawn chair made out of tubes that sits out side and its starting to crack though.

ETA - I just remembered I am finishing off a case of mtn bike tubes I bought nearly 10 years ago, and they are still fine. They are still in boxes, kept in my cool garage.
