    Cadillac Hill Reception w/HT

Hello guys, I have a funeral to preform on the 21st and the location is the other side (Calif-from what I'm told) of Tahoe. I will be going in on Friday evening and leaving Saturday morning(ish)(if we get out).

I have never been there nor around that place and my question is will the HT work well and on the regular freq's. The person told me my cell phone will not work. I will need communication if some thing goes wrong and I need to call one of you. I'm not even sure if I should take my 1911 since I don't know the laws of Calif and hand guns (haven't kept up on it because I don't go there/Calif).

    Thanks again for the help,
    Jim

here is what i found as a supplemnt to troutman's info

The mighty 805-- use when near P-ville. 146.805, PL of 123, negative - offset I have hit this machine from meadow lake and as far north as hawley lake. Awesome coverage.

Coverage within trail only--from WWS/Loon to top of Caddy 444.9875, PL 156.7 + offset
Trail coverage with link to the 805 (aka VERY WIDE coverage) 444.9875, PL 107.2 + offset With this setting you access all the bay area, western foothills, etc
Easy trail car to car simplex 444.9875, No pl, No offset Or just use any simplex freq that makes ur group happy.

From Rubicon Springs it is easy to hit the Mt. Rose machine 147.150 w/ pl 123 which is linked to the otherhigh level machines in this area. But you are not likely to hit it with a HT. If help is needed or a message needs to getout, use the 444.9875 w/ PL 107.2. If a 911 deal, all the above work. If a message needs to get out, use the linked 805 process and ask someone please do a 'land line relay' There are MANY hams that listen to the 805 so someonewill make a phone call for you. i always offer to send them a couplebucks forthe trouble. Your HT will be just fine on the UHF stuff on trail and to get out via the 805 link.

By the way, this is what makes it all happen-- repeater near spider lake on merlin's property.

Mark, I don't think you can hit Mt Rose from Cadillac hill. I tried it a couple of weeks ago when we were waiting for a busted rig to clear the trail.

Interesting... On the hill itself, i can how there is a lot of dirt in the way. However, while camped at dirty dozen i can consistently hit it w/ ease. In fact, using x-band repeat i went for a hike from DD up to the care takers cabin and with the FT60 and a 2" stubby antenna checked into the noon net via mt rose, so it is doable, but if ur up against the hill side, maybe not. But i'm using a 5/8 antenna mounted high on the jeep w/ 55 watts...

Yeah I've hit it from the springs with my mobile. I think half way up the hill there is just a lot of mountain in the way.
