    Any strength athletes here?

Any powerlifters, crossfitters, or Olympic lifters? Just looking for some local meat-heads to bullshit with and help keep me motivated. I just got into powerlifting, have one competition done, and an really enjoying it. But all of my friends and family are tried of me talking about training, diet, and theory. So I figured it was time to look for more friends!

Bullshit. If it's not on FB, gym trip didn't happen. But we do need to teach them that walking in, sitting on a bike while fb'ing, then leaving 7 minutes later does not constitute an effective workout.

So is there anyone on here that can help me add weight to my squat? It's only at 245lbs right now and I need it closer to 400lbs. My goal is 500lbs. After I hit that I'm going to shoot for 800lbs, that is if I still have my spinal cord and organs inside me after the 500.

    My comp lifts:
    squat-203#
    bench-176#
    deadlift-270#
    all at 160#s body weight

    Gym lifts:
    squat-245#
    bench-180#
    deadlift-305#
    weighting around 160 to 165

I'm sure I just need more time under that bar, but I come from a generation that wants everything right now without working hard.

what does your regular workout consist of? I do crossfit now. have done heavy lifting in the past.

400# squat is not unachievable but it will take years to get there safely from 245#.

I workout off the Westside method, a max effort day and dynamic effort day for each upper and lower body. So is a four day training method. For max effort lower body work I choose a squat or deadlift variation, warm up and then try for my current max and then add weight to it until I miss. Then take that new max and use it to determine my percentages on my speed days. my percents are usually 50% for 12 set of doubles for the first week, 55%for 12 set of doubles for the second week, and 60% ten sets of doubles for the last week. I usually follow the dynamic squat with a deadlift variation at 55% for 10 sets of singles. Then I move on to my choice of Good Morning variations, partial deadlifts for reps, or rack pulls. Then I do a core exercise, grapplers, tornadoes with a 20# Bulgarian bag, choppers, ab pulldowns with bands, suitcase holds for time, of some crunches on my GHR. My accessorize work on Max lower body days are leg curls for reps, pull throughs, glute and ham raises, or band stomps. Followed by the same options for core work.

That's the rough gist of what I do. I stopped my conditioning work since I was losing too much weight. So I increase the volume I do during my workouts. I try to focus on both form and explosiveness on all of my exercises.

Sounds like you have a plan. You say that you need your squat to be closer to 400. Why the need? My jopints scream everymorning when i arise and at 44 that is not a good thing. I am just curious as to what your purpose is. when i was powering it was because i could....lol no other reason than to be as strong as possible .

I need it closer to 400lbs so I have a chance of going to nationals at my current age and weight. It's a pipe dream to put on 100lbs to my squat in 3 months, but it's a goal! After my birthday I will need to squat 500lbs to go to nationals. My other lifts are a lot closer to the class standards than my squat is.

My goal is to just be as strong as I can be. I have been scrawny and weak for too long.

I tried something different after getting injured repeatedly. The theory is that total weight lifted is the same between uber high reps at ridiculously low weights and low reps at higher weights.

I thought it was b.s. till I benched a 45lb bar for 150-200 reps. My strength went way up and my tendon issues disappeared. Not for everyone, but its something different when you are fighting injuries.

    Power

Almost 50. Been lifting on and off since I was 14. Former power lifter and the wife is a personal fitness trainer here in G-ville. She also competes once or twice a year. Fire away if you have any questions.

I suggest you squat ass to grass, with no belt, for about a month. Go back to belt and wraps after that. It will bump your single rep max up a bit.

May i suggest you purchase a high end anatomy book. Study the muscle groups required to complete each lift. As you will see in a group like the quadriceps the four muscles work together .To get the optimal performance from each muscle you must target that muscle during your workout. Something as simple as the direction of your foot can increase the strength of each muscle.

Sorry, I have not replied for a while. It 's been finals season, thank god I am done.

I am currently do a 3 week wave of box squats to parallel. The following up the next day with a box squat complex bellow parallel.

My hamstrings feel stronger and so does my lower back. Now I just need to bring up my obliques and lower abs because that's where I feel myself folding over the most.

I have the goal to squat over 300lbs by march. So we will see how it goes. I think it will be a good way to gauge how much I can do in a time period.

No, I just squatted 315 raw last week. I have also worked up to a 465 squat in double ply briefs, if that means anything to you.
