Those electric hub bikes appeal a lot more than a motorized one. But a motorbike would still be fun. Cool project.

Can the hub motor go into either front or rear wheel?

Mid-drive electric actually looks even better. But they sure are pricey.

Riding a front wheel drive bicycle sounds like a fun challenge. Wear a helmet.
And the watchman told... and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi; for he driveth furiously.

I was thinking more along the lines of all wheel drive.

I worked on some bikes with the cheap chinese gas engine kits when I worked at a shop. They are as cheap as you can imagine - parts are roug cast or stamped metal. A 'universal' kit meant it didn't fit anything very well. I don't think any lasted very long. Some used a sprocket that sandwiched the non-drive side spokes and they made inexpensive wheels have very short lifespans.

Yes, I have done this! A friend did this for his final senior design project when we were working on our degrees. I helped him build it and it turned out pretty good. 2x12Ah SLA batteries in a saddlebag configuration with a secondhand geared motor for drive and control setup for 2 speeds (high and low). It wasn't a hub motor, but instead it had a secondary drive chain and a small chain idler/tensioner we made. Also, he ended up removing the pedals after testing and just went with small foot rests.

I've installed a couple of those motorized kits. The first one I did ran amazing after getting a nicer spark plug and some carb tuning. Sold that one to make a different one and replaced spark plug and put a less restrictive air filter on it but for some reason it wouldn't run for shit. So I think it comes down to if they send you a clean running engine or not. They're fun as hell to smash around if you get a smooth running one though!

That one doesn't look bad, those kits for your bike end up murdering the spokes on the back wheel, they are kind of rigged on the bike too.
