    Anyone done a motech swap?

    Thinking about a ls3 in my 08 jku. Looking to do the install myself. Anyone done one?

    I have visited the place and rode in one of the 6.2 with the 8 speed and it was pretty nice. They have everything working and will get it certified in Clark county for smog. You may have a tough time in Washoe county getting it certified from what I hear. They are also going to start doing the baby Duramax swaps out of the Colorado later this year.

    The smog lab here is a pita. I need a swap as well with mine pushing 5600#'s on 40's I doubt they will let you do a LS swap. Maybe a Hemi since the law states it has to be from the same manufacturer and the same year or newer and retain all emissions crap.

    The only person I know locally who has had a swap done by them is Larry Roberts, and he isn't on this board. 4Wheel Parts has done a lot of work on his Jeep and probably have contact info for him.

    Turn Key Engine Supply in Oceanside CA developed a procedure to put an LS into a JK and have it CA smog legal. They don't want to do the install, they will give you the procedure along with the engine. As I recall a significant portion of the procedure was DMV paperwork. It might be worth a call to Turn Key.

    I think you are referring to the day acquisition company and the original poster was referring to the company in Vegas that does swaps. Kind of confusing.

    someone needs to sue the washoe department. Everything I could find that was on the actual nevada laws pointed to the LS swaps being legal in NV as long as it was the same year or newer engine and ALL of the emissions controls from the donor vehicle are used. There was a section about how nevada uses the standard epa rules or something and they epa laws I could find mentioned that as well. It just had to be a similar weight class. So no swapping a duramax into jeep legally here but the gas motors available in the 1500 trucks should be fine. Clark county should be following the exact same rules as Washoe has.

    This swap thing gets real odd when trying to nail down a price. Doesnt seem like the shop wants to give a number even though they've done a ton of them. Customers dont want to talk about it, what gives?

    It wasnt pointed at you. I called Robbie and he gave me a range of 20 to mid 20's. Seems like a pretty big gap.

    What motor did you go with? Thanks for the info.

    That range is what anyone would give you until you get 100% specific about the JK present build and exactly what you want done.

    I have a LC9 dod delete, kept the VVT but added a Comp cam etc.
    Expectation 420+- HP-TQ and still runs reg gas.

    6l80e.

    Bought both with 840 miles on them for $4k.

    Cost is going to be variable because you are looking at used motors and transmissions. It depends on what you can find and pick up. If you go new everything then you are going to have better luck getting the price nailed down. You stated you are going to do this yourself, I would start looking for the donor motor and determine how much of the electronics you want to work. Motech has everything working and runs both the jeep computer and the chevy computer. If you don't care about everything running like a/c and cruise control you can do a simple 4 wire LS swap for under $10k. Motech offers a diy kit to do their swap with you supplying the motor and transmission. That kit is in the $7k range.

    I recently got my 2009 JKUR back from Motech with a 6.2L L94 and 6L80. If you want to check it out I'm in Incline and I come down to Reno every week or two. Can't say enough good things about Robbie and his guys - so far very impressed with the job they did on the swap including their kit parts. We are smog exempt for Washoe County up here but based on a bunch of long conversations with Robbie (who is a certified NV emissions inspector and was also one in CA I think) he can guide / assist in making it happen in Reno. Most of the other swap approaches leave huge emissions certification issues unaddressed. I'm happy to pass on more details of what I learned and for the full scoop give Robbie a call - he knows more on the topic than anyone I've met.
