List of local OHV clubs, group, organizations...

    Okay,

With the management of the Rubicon soon to change, I'm looking to compile a list of local OHV groups (with contacts) that might be interested in helping maintain the Rubicon Trail. Placer side volunteers should be needed this year. I know I said that last year but management changes this year.

This list would also be helpful to people looking to hang out with other wheelers but don't know where to turn.

If you haven't heard, El Dorado County will soon become the responsible agency for the ENTIRE length of the Rubicon Trail. Placer County, the Tahoe National Forest and the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit have all signed off on letting El Dorado manage the trail.

Here's what I have so far. I'm sure the list could grow the further out we go in to Nevada but let's keep it a little closer for now. I'm looking for names and how to contact those clubs. Any OHV types: 4wd, side-by-side, motorcycle, etc.

    Thanks,

Sorry Doug I don't really have any input for your question. I'm curious though, is El Dorado taking over management of the entire trail a good thing or a bad thing?

    A very good thing.

Vickie Sanders of El Dorado County has brought millions of dollars in grant money to the El Dorado side of the Rubicon Trail. Placer County has stepped away from any authority to manage the trail. They didn't want the responsibility of managing the trail even though the Rubicon Trail brings in almost 10 million dollars to Placer County every year. Without management and maintenance the anti-OHV people will claim the trail is damaging the environment and will get it closed down.

Once the final deal is approved (11/19/19), Vickie will roll out the plan to tackle the issues facing the Rubicon. One of which is a reroute away from the section of trail that is about to fall in to Miller Creek. The Forest Service is already onboard with the reroute.

Stay tuned for setting priorities on the trail and selecting groups to adopt sections of the Rubicon to maintain.

About a mile west of the turn at Forest Road 03-04 (that goes to Barker Pass) the trail skirts Miller Creek. Miller Creek is to the south and drops off so step that JJ flagged it during Jamboree to warn the participants. It is almost undercut right there. A little further west is the new log bridge/ramp built in a mud hole. Both would be bypassed on old logging roads to the north.

I can try and find GPS coordinates if it's that important.

I appreciate the post. I don't know anyone I can go wheel with so I'll have to keep this in mind!
